Rangers could lose highly-rated kid Dapo Mebude after he reportedly rejected a new contract.

Gers have high hopes for the teenage striker, 17, who has caught Steven Gerrard's eye for the reserves.

Mebude trained with Gerrard's first-team in the build-up to last Thursday's Europa League tie against Villarreal.

But the Light Blues risk losing the Scotland Under-19s starlet at the end of the season.

Mebude - who scored in today's 5-0 reserve win over Kilmarnock -  is out of contract this summer but has yet to make his debut for the club.

And Football Insider claims the youngster has rejected a new deal, alerting a number of clubs down south.

Mebude came through the ranks with Chelsea prodigy Billy Gilmour and Rangers don't want to lose another up-and-coming prospect.

Get him some first team action off the bench against the likes of Hamilton at home, and against lower opposition in the cup, that should appease him.

Young Gilmour is doing fantastically well down south, and as said we don't want to lose another young prospect.

"Chelsea prodigy Billy Gilmour" LOL. Good luck to young Gilmour, I fully expect him  to be the next Messi the way his departure is reported in the mhedia.

Back on topic, any youth player who wouldn't run through a brick wall to be mentored by a world class player a) needs their head examined b) needs to seriously question advice being supplied to them

If I am seeing my mate get £10k a week, and I am being offered £1k a week, my head is going to start looking elsewhere.

I know it shouldn't matter, but it does.

Probably seeing the wages & lifestyle Gilmour has got in London & fancies some of that kinda action.

Can’t really blame him tbh.

Wages and "lifestyle"? I seriously doubt Chelsea are paying Billy Gilmour life changing money. A London centric wage, accommodation and offer to pursue his academic pursuits I seem to recall.

Completely agree mate. Of course it will at his age. But unless its eye watering money, a London based lifestyle can be distinctly average.

Yep, sounds not bad to me & along with most likely a superior standard of coaching I would understand why an ex colleague would fancy some of it.

If he does go it's down to money and we can't match England in this matter. With Gilmore money came into it but we were a shambles at the time . Our manager has already shown there is a pathway to the first team and he believes in young players. If the lad wants to leave with these opportunities available then fine, we want committed players.
