Rangers boss Steven Gerrard delivers toys, food and water to homeless kids ahead of Christmas

Gerrard dropped off supplies to the Whitechapel Belvedere Family Centre in his home city

The former midfielder was pictured alongside his business partner and group of grateful kids, with hundreds of bottles of water behind.

He shared the pic on Instagram and wrote: "Today myself and @angel777850 visited #whitechapel #belvederefamilycentre to drop off toys, food and water. This centre supports homeless people in Liverpool."

Fans were loving it and the post racked up 50,000 likes in just an hour.

And comments also flooded in as they showed their appreciation for the gesture

We have homeless kids, food banks, people going weeks without money because of the UC switch over. Yet migrants walk into this country and get everything laid on a plate for them.

If anybody honestly thinks Gerrard would want to be associated with the 'migrants' garbage comment then that person is a delusional that might as well believe in the infallibility of the pope. It's rank and embarrassing. I fully accept the point that poverty is shameful and a blight on all but at least Gerrard is trying to do a small thing against it. We are all migrants, or somewhere in our ancestry we certainly were. Our hospital surgeons and cleaners are migrants. Without migrants we wouldn't even have a football team.

What has a comment on a football forum got to do with Stevie. The poster pointed out that we have homeless kids and families in this country, but we still find the money and homes for people coming into our country for no other reason than they know the grass is greener on our side of the fence.

I think the point being made is that why are there homeless British kids when immigrants seem to get everything given to them including a home. It's not racist as the British kids could be of black or Asian origin.

14 million under the poverty line and the majority of them work!. 

What really annoys me is that it is only shown once a year when people are overspending on themselves that can and Shows how corrupt politicians really are when they know the truth and deny it and allow this misery.

Nobody has suggested he is critising Stevie.  The issue is the nature of his comments and how those comments detract from a good news story.  Perhaps he can express his thoughts a bit more eloquently than “fucking gypos from Romania”.
