Not the finished article but he gives the impression that he's learning, and improving, the more games he plays.  Hopefully he goes on to become a mainstay of the team. His effort and commitment is obvious and Gerrard's comments about him being a midfielder rather than a defender are being proven to be accurate.

Would be more effective if he was the only DM in the team imo. He & Jack both do the same job and ultimately get in each others way sometimes. Thought he was solid today and got stronger as the game went on. Looks a real talent when running with the ball. Just maybe needs to work on his final ball.

Amazing defensively, allows us to play and gives it everything

Needs to be a bit smarter on the ball as he never seems to be aware of people closing on him from behind and too often his second touch is a tackle (usually a good one) but still

Him and Jack are at their best when they both don't play as DMs though. When they have both have a chance to play a bit more forward they work well for us as a base for the 4 more attacking players, its a mistake to think they are DMs.

It's a bit like Ian Ferguson and Stuart McCall for us from 92-95. There's totally room for two players to play that role.

The biggest problem we have is lack of width. It's the key to playing the system Gerrard wants us to. Kent and Candeias not hitting the touchline when we have possession, the centre halves not splitting, and Halliday and Tav slightly too far forward makes it easy for teams to defend against us and slow us down. It also crowds the middle of the pitch and makes it look like Jack, McCrorie and Arfield are on top of each other.
