Gerry Collins - “Rangers don’t produce enough Scottish talent”

Recommended Posts

GERRY COLLINS claims Rangers aren’t producing enough Scottish talent - and says it’s hindering the national team.

The former Partick Thistle boss says the Ibrox side aren’tinterested in developing youngsters and would rather splash the cash on ready-made top team players.

He told Rock Sport: “Rangers are all for Rangers. They’renot interested in breeding young guys that come into their team.

“They want instant success because of the situation they don’t want to bring young, good talent into Rangers.

“They would rather go and spend £10/11million.”

After his comments were challenged by host Bill Young, Collins appeared to backtrack.

He said: “I’m not blaming Rangers.”

Collins also believes under-fire boss Alex McLeish will be rueing the lack of Scots in Steven Gerrard’s Light Blues team.

He said: “I’d love to sit down with Alex McLeish and next time I see him I’m going to ask the question to him.

“Is it a burden that Rangers don’t produce young Scottish talent?

“Is it enough to you in the national team? He’s got to say yeah, because Rangers supplied as much players as Celtic for the international team.”

Asked if Celtic are supplying enough talent for Scotland, Collins said: “I think they have done, yeah.”

Six Celts stars landed Scotland call-ups for the double-header against Kazakhstan and San Marino, while no Rangers players were involved.

Ibrox keeper Allan McGregor was McLeish’s No1 before his recent retirement from international football.

The second person in a week to come out and point the figure at us as a reason as to why Scotland are shite 🙄

It’s like these clowns forget what we have been through. We were being run by charlatans who only had their own interests at heart and the governing bodies did nothing to help us. We didn’t have the proper infrastructure to develop youngsters, financially we couldn’t afford to bring the better Scottish players to the club (we still get quoted excessive amounts when we try to buy within Scotland because clubs are bitter as fuck) and we couldn’t attract the better ones capable of playing at international level because they wouldn’t have come to us to play lower league football.

It’s only been in the last few years that we have started to truly recover from that and been in a position to look at developing our own talent and with us having 5 players in the U-16’s squad, 3 in the U-18’s squad, 7 l in the u-19’s squad and 2 players in the U-21’s it is now clearly starting to pay off.

Just now, The Dude said:

Seven of the Under 19 squad were Rangers players and two of the u21s. McCrorie, Jack and Arfield all have a claim to be in the squad. Bates wouldn't be in it if he hadn't been a Rangers player. McGregor would have started had he not retired. There are a number of Rangers players in the younger Scotland groups too.

Gerry Collins can go fuck himself.

Finally been outed as redwhiteandblue. A new low Dude.

Arfield is Canadian

Only because successive Scotlad bosses refused to pick him. He represented Scotland at various youth levels before choosing to play for Canada in his mid-20s because he couldn't even get a call-up to the Scotland squad.
