Gerrard : Post Match Reaction

Lots of  paradoxes tonight.

We weren't solid in any department, lacked cohesion and teamwork, but still got a solid result.

MacGregor hardly troubled but defence was laughable.

Tav and Goldson look jaded, yet Barisic played well and was up for it.

Helander least said the better, has probably claimed the 4th best CB in the squad position.

Davis did well, Jack did well, but to no great efect.

Kamara scored straight away, but had a poor game.

Aribo and Ojo moved well and played the ball around, but no end result.

Morelos was everywhere up front, but hardly got a decent pass.

And of course, the pitch was shocking, the ref was weak, and they bullied us all over the park, was a horrible all round game of football.

The sort of game we'd have totally shot ourselves in the foot last year, but we carried this one through, so I guess it just shows we might have a wee bit more faith and character and more desire to keep plugging away in the squad just now.

See I still think it was a 50/50 and their player caused Helander to go down by pushing him. Helander didn’t dive in to win the ball.

He caught the back of his calves, brought him down. Doesn't matter if it was accidental or whatever.

If it had been the other way round, we'd be screaming Red card, there'd be untold amount of threads about  Ref's a taig/conspiracy/ hates Rangers put whatever in there …

I agree with McAllister, if that's what he said.

But it's done now anyway.

I guess it depends on what Gary Mac has seen, what camera angle etc.

What I would say is I can see an argument for both incidents. If the Dykes one was Morelos would we have been screaming for a red? 100% IMO. If Aribo catches Lawless with a stray arm would we argue it wasn't a red? Probably. Of course the argument in this case would be that it's not merely a stray arm.

I think what Gary Mac was saying was that it wasn't a big dirty elbow smash and that to jump you need to use your arms. Nothing more really. It's just his opinion. Not really that important.

I've seen enough of that character this season to give me faith in this team to go and win trophies

Gary is too nice for his and our own good.

He probably apologised to that guy who punched him for hurting the guys fist.....

It is one thing being honest, but when our opponents are telling outright lies (head v head Tonight, the ball had crossed the line last match) it just sits a bit wrong with me. I’m not saying lie, but frame it in terms of ‘he Probably didn’t mean it but it really damaged our player and could have been a red’, don’t bloody say ‘it wasn’t intentional and wasn’t a red’. Doesn’t exactly help protect our players in future matches. If a challenge needing 20 stitches isn’t a red you start to wonder how much reckless force is allowed in the game ‘as long as you don’t mean it’

Helander was a red card.

He was last man, he clearly took the man, not the ball.

The rule has changed has it not?

Could be mistaken.

Even so I'll play along, Helander not being sent off makes up for the elbow on Aribo not being a red card, and that cunt not getting a 2nd yellow for diving in the 2nd half.

Much like Defoe's offside goal on Sunday makes up for the penalty we weren't given.

Doesn’t matter if it was intentional or not, it was dangerous play and he should’ve walked.
