Rangers defender Filip Helander slaughters the long-ball merchants 'ruining' Scottish football

The Swedish international isn't impressed by the standard of opponents and insists they don't play the game properly

Filip Helander insists Scottish football is ruined by long-ball merchants as the Rangers defender criticised the standard of play.

The Ibrox defender's debut was delayed by the form of Nikola Katic but has been in the team in recent weeks before an injury ruled him out of Saturday's win over Hamilton

The £3.5m summer signing is now with Sweden preparing for Euro 2020 qualifiers against Malta and Spain but is a major doubt for the double-header.

And Helander, in an interview in his homeland, admitted he's been taken aback by the direct nature of the Premiership.

He said: "I did my pre-season a little later than anyone else and wasn't playing much in the beginning, but now it's good and it's fun to be playing for a team who win a lot of matches and who are top of the table

"I've enjoyed it. It's a different type of game compared to Italy.

"Scottish football and Italian football both fit my style quite well. It's very physical in Scotland. There's really a lot of long balls and our opponents are a lot worse than us. They try to ruin games, but you learn from that too.

"Steven Gerrard is a very good coach and he was a player I had great respect for and watched a lot. I think he's clearly a very tactically-capable coach too."

And Helander is hoping he can shrug off his foot knock for Sweden's vital qualifiers.

He said: "I have had problems on and off with my foot since last spring, but it actually feels okay just now

I had a good rest over the summer, but I've had a lot of matches recently and it's not really healed, but I feel in good shape anyway.

"We play Malta first and it's a match where we should be taking three points. We won't underestimate Malta, but we know we must win and we are a better team than them

The truth and full accuracy are only two ways of looking at information and facts.    Why would press reporting in Scotland want to honour these principles when applying misleading spin to headline a story is far more likely to achieve their low-life purpose of stirring up controversy where no controversy exists.

Usual inaccurate headlines from a rag, he says his foots ok, then says it hasn't healed!

More worried we spent 3.5mill on a defender that has a recurring foot problem.

😂😂 So Helander is talking shite about himself then.
Maybe try reading the article before posting about it bellend. .

You’re getting your knickers in a twist about something that Helander himself doesn’t really seem to care about

Isn’t there a Tavernier thread for you to dwell in?

Livingston's second goal against celtic came from a long punt up the park.  Keeper launched it, striker got in between their defenders, and lobbed the keeper.  So it works.  Teams like Livingston are never going to play attractive possession football against the Old Firm teams so they do what they can to get results.  They sit in and punt it long what more do you expect from a team with fuck all to spend?

Miserable about what??

Helander has said he has a problem with his foot, he thought the summer layoff would fix but it’s came back. So are we just supposed to ignore that because it doesn’t suit all you happy clappers.

Welcome to Scottish journalism son where bullshit headlines falsely representing what you've said are a common means of wronging our players.

If we had a decent PR department they would be on the phone to these wankers and demand a retraction of that headline, but my guess is we do not have that and it will be pinned up on dressing room walls for other teams players to read the next time we play them. Grrrrrrrr.

Your overuse of laughing emojis is worrying imo, seems like a cry for help.
