The club’s number one has been an outstanding performer for Steven Gerrard’s since his return to Ibrox in May 2018 and, at the age of 37, is a hugely important player both on and off the pitch. McGregor started his career with the Light Blues and after coming through the youth ranks made his first team debut in a Scottish Cup tie against Forfar Athletic in February 2002. The talented shot-stopper then had loan spells at St Johnstone and Dunfermline Athletic, and at the start of the 2006/07 season he became a regular in the Gers starting eleven. Over the next six years, McGregor made over 250 competitive appearances and was a key player as the club won silverware, including three league titles. He also produced a string of impressive displays as Walter Smith’s side progressed to the UEFA Cup final in 2008. After a year in Turkey with Besiktas from July 2012 to July 2013, he returned to the UK and had a five-year stint with Hull City. McGregor was named the Tigers’ Player of the Year in 2017/18 before he returned to Rangers, becoming Gerrard’s second signing after the capture of Scott Arfield. Since then, he has been in terrific form in domestic matches and on the European stage and he was named in the PFA Scotland Team of the Year for 2018/19.
