Agreed, a defender isn't going to make a difference. The main problem is the midfield/forward areas which aren't creating enough chances or scoring goals. The team as a whole has become very predictable and seems to have abandoned the high press which worked so well in the first half of the season. Is their fitness in question, or is it purely a mental/attitude thing ?

This 100%. The high press has been abandoned and that’s why we’re struggling

Attack is the best form of defence. We’ve been very poor in converting chances since the break with too many players off form.

I don’t think our defence is awful, the stats don’t lie and over the piece we’ve not conceded many goals although certainly we made bad mistakes last night. I think all of our central defenders are ok but we certainly don’t have any that are unstoppable or phenomenal. Helander lacks pace but he reads the game very well and is very strong in the air.

I think the problem has been a combination of losing helander, Jack, tav and Morelos at the same time. There isn’t enough quality in the team to sustain that, and tav and Morelos have both been off the pace since their return.

Players aren’t up to sustaining that way of playing.

Took Klopp 2, maybe 3 seasons to get Liverpool playing the way he wants consistently.

He acknowledged that the players needed time to adapt so that they are now playing to this high tempo almost all the time.

Anybody who doesn't think the defence is  poor is deluded, one goal from us should be enough to beat any of the shite we play

2 goals the sheep

2 hearts

2  Killie

dont conceed in any of these games after being ahead and we'd be top of the league and probably have won it, 2 solid central defenders needed the 4 we have aren't good enough, average nothing more

This thread is a common example of how much better a player becomes when he doesn't play. Helander is no better and no worse than the other centre backs. To be honest I'm happy enough with any pairing with Goldson probably being the pick of the bunch. It's the rest of the team that's letting us down.

Couple of points:  passing the ball about in our own half especially around the box limits our chances of scoring but increases our chances of conceding.

Sitting off the opposition and giving so much time and space to run forward puts far too much pressure on a defence which lacks concentration and organisation/

4 shots on target in 94 minutes is a disgrace for a team which are so highly paid and so expensively put together.

So Goldson didn't make an arse of their second goal? If he's the pick, then we're screwed

Getting better the less he plays. A common thing with players among outer support these days.

Helander looks awkward and slow but the statistics don't lie. He is an effective player who has been missed. Edmundson & Katic are apprentices and apprentices make mistakes. Until last night, Goldson has been very good for about 3 months. It's Goldson & Helander all day long for me. And that was the choice in Europe that has given us success to date.

Don't think the defence is a massive issue tbh. Just looking at the stats, we've conceded 1 more goal than them. We've scored 17 fewer though. The bigger issue is further forward.

Goldson is a liability when push comes to shove, he has the unerring ability to make a pure and utter cunt of it.

What doesn't lie is what you see in front of your eyes. He looks awkward and slow bcause he is. What doesn't lie is the points total at the end of the season. What does lie are the statistics used to justify mediocrity and shitebaggery. That and the blinkers Gerrard is obviously wearing.

So what about him being...

the slowest footballer in Scotland?

turtle necking?

the turning circle of an ocean liner?

an hour to make a pass?

intimidates no one?

injured again?

EL is meaningless. It suits the shitebaggery and gives time on the ball and lbh, we aint ever winning it. It's good for cash that we now need to pay for the wages of the shitebaggery that have ballooned under Gerrard.

We will never agree on this player or Goldson, but that football. All about opinions.

At no point did anyone say that so you're just making stuff up now.

This is a common example of how much worse a player becomes after a single fuck up or poor game.

Try looking at Goldson's performances over a longer period. Yes there are mistakes but overall he's having a decent season. There's not a single defender in the world that doesn't lose cheap goals from time to time.
