*****Official 20/21 EL Qualifying thread*****

Recommended Posts

Europe is incredibly important to Rangers. Gerrard would never lie down just to favour the league.

Instead, we have improved the squad. The bench, when everyone is fit is much stronger. We should be able to cope on both fronts now.

Four able CH's and four potent strikers are a testament to that.

We will get one more midfielder in and we should be well prepared for all competitions.

Thought I would create this thread for all the draws in qualifying and update people on draw dates/times, possible opponents etc. Something to look forward to over the next few weeks.  We've had

Should score at least one over there and make game at Ibrox a formality.

Can I order 2 home and one away top please.

We got that as a consolation for coming third in a four team group though.

They got papped out by diddies before even qualifying for the tournament.

If we get through Willem which I really think we should then Galatasaray or Hadjuk don't really bother me.

Galatasaray are a huge club and definietely the biggest we've played  in these Europa qualifiers over the last 2 years. However, they aren't what they used to be at all.

It could have been better but it could have been a lot worse!

I reckon next week could be the hard part. If we get through that one then i would be pretty confident of beating either of the other two.

Good to get a home tie , but we need to get past Willem first. Dont think that will be easy

This for me as well, glad it will be at home if we get through, but personally I will try and stop thinking about it until after the Willem II game next Thursday to see if we get the chance to play the game at Ibrox. Fingers crossed at the moment.  🤞

Is there that much money to be made from EL qualification this year?

I always assumed the majority of our revenue from it came from tickets rather than TV (in contrast to the CL).

Yep the club are losing out on millions this season. 4 guaranteed 40k plus attendances.

Surely all clubs must be due some compensation or extra prize money from UEFA this year.

Seen a post where they’ve only won about 3 European games in 3-4 years.

Lost to Ostersunds in 17/18 as well.

Anybody tell me why the sheep were seeded and we weren't?

The way things are done is a fuck up, get every team in the 1 pot and draw it out.

Even the fucking scum were seeded whilst we do all the hard work on the coefficient side of things.

I'm baffled.

Sporting were seeded in round 2, Aberdeen will take their place if they win.

Hadjuk Split might not be a walkover for them as most people think, they've played a decent number of games whilst Galatasaray's season has only just started.

Just been speaking to my wife's Croatian cousin (big hajduk fan) & he reckons they've got no chance against them.

Sporting were seeded not Aberdeen, the higher seed carries over. The same thing happened with us and Maribor 2 years ago, we got their higher seed for the next round.

The bold part isn't true. The tarriers weren't seeded for this round and we haven't done all the work on the coefficient.

Just had a look there at their record. So since they reached the QF of the CL in 12/13 they have played 39 games in Europe (qualifiers, group stages, knockouts) and have won 5.

Against teams from the top 5 countries their record is 1 win in 20 games and their record against teams outside the top 5 is 4 wins in 19 games.

Also if you take out our games pre the playoff round because Galatasaray rarely play in these rounds so would be an unfair comparison. We have won the same amount of games in Europe last season that Galatasaray have won in the last 8 years

Galatasaray also finished 6th In their league last season.  I don’t think this is the strongest Galatasaray side in recent years.

And yet they didn't fire their manager. Strange.

I honestly don't know much about that club.  I seen some of their fans commenting on posts after the draw.  Some said they had no money for transfers, or that transfer activity was needed if they wanted to get past us.  I think they're looking for a CM same as we are.
