Kamara

Apparently Gerrard very keen to keep him and will sort out new contract once this transfer window is out the way.

Win-win for us because he’s really shown his worth this season, especially in Europe and an improved contract means a better fee if and when he does leave.

Outstanding value for 50k.

Once he starts being a bit more composed when chances fall to him at the edge of the box he's going to be some player.

Must admit If any bids had came in during the summer I'd have sold him simply to balance the books and maybe keep Alfie but really glad we have kept him, he grafts away in midfield and has really stepped up since the livi game.

Glen Kamara set for new Rangers contract as Steven Gerrard '100 per cent' backs bumper deal

The Ibrox boss wants to fend off interest in a player he admits could pay "at any level".

Rangers will offer Glen Kamara a bumper new deal in a bid to fend off interest from England and abroad.

Steven Gerrard is keen to reward the Finnish midfielder with an improved deal to ensure he stays.

Kamara signed a four-and-a-half-year deal when he joined Gers from Dundee for £50,000 in January 2019.

In the last year he has been linked with Arsenal, Brighton, Aston Villa and Crystal Palace and Juventus, Marseille and Anderlecht.

But Gerrard insists Kamara won’t be leaving.

He said: “Glen is not going anywhere. We are going to offer him a new contract when the time is right. The plan was always to get this window out of the way before we spoke about that but Glen is aware of it.

“He is a fantastic player. We believe he is capable of playing for most teams out there, at any level. He is that talented.

“We want him to stay and be part of this in the short and long-term.

“We’re absolutely delighted with Glen and he deserves a new deal 100 per cent.”

While Kamara isn’t for sale, Gerrard can’t rule out others leaving if big bids come in before the transfer window closes tomorrow.

He wants to add a midfielder but admits it’s 50/50 whether he’ll get one. Gerrard is adamant he’ll only move if the right player becomes available.

When asked if he was any closer to getting his man, he said: “No, is the answer to that.

“Myself, the board and Ross Wilson will continue to try and find the right person who will help us for the remainder of this
season and hopefully beyond. We’re no further forward at the moment but we’re actively trying.

“There’s probably a 50/50 chance whether it happens or not because it’s not a case of just adding a number to cover. We’re only going to bring someone in if we feel they’re going to make the squad and the eleven better.

“In terms of the next couple of days, anything can happen. Something can get taken out of my hands. There is a financial situation at every club.

“We are going through a pandemic so some things might be out of my control in the coming days.

“My hope from a selfish point of view is to have the best possible players available for me after the international break.”

Gerrard’s stock as a manager rose again in midweek by qualifying for the Europa League group stage for the third year on the spin.

As he prepared for today’s Premiership clash with Ross County, he claimed they still have everything to prove domestically after two trophyless campaigns.

He said: “We know the importance of trying to add trophies at this club.

“The challenge for myself and the players is to be in the mix when the prizes are being given out at the end of the season.

“It is down to us to prove that we can stay the distance this season, not how it has been in the last couple of years where we’ve faded away after the winter break.

“It’s my job to try to make sure that the squad is in a better place this year. It is why I have been so keen to add to it and move it forward. The concern for me is we don’t do that and stand still.”

He said: “This is a huge football club and this is an important stage because of what’s at stake this season in the short-term.

“We’ve got European football now, a quality group, exciting games, and the opportunity to win here and create history.”

The 50k was basically a goodwill gesture cos we were getting him on a free.

We would’ve had to pay much more than that if his contract wasn’t up.

Big fan of Kamara but it wasn’t some sort of expert scouting and transfer decision to get him for £50,000

I thought we’d be a little bit better prepared than leaving things to the last minute to try and find a suitable player.

I know players on our original list might no longer be available but surely this would have been an always updating list?

Especially since adding to the squad had the prerequisite of getting to the next stage in Europe.

Gerrard is right about kamaras ability, i think if he went to a more open, footballing league he would be worth 20mill minimum, right now he suffers at times in this backwater, caveman inhabited, poor excuse for a footballing country because all they want to do is defend and kick anything in front of them

Bring this up all the time the meaning and relevance of the fee is so misconstrued
