Benfica really turned it on in the second spell. That made the difference for me

A game of two halves really. We were very good first half while they dominated much of the second especially when we seemed to tire a bit. Probably could have done with fresh legs on sooner. Good game though. Two very good sides.

Some folk will try and have you believe it’s not pish as Benfica are a good side. When we should have beaten that good side twice.

It's not pish, we didn't get beat and have held our own against a team who have spunked over 100 million on players and play CL football near enough every year.

We are joint top and leading our domestic league by 11 points.

If that's pish then time to chuck it

I was slightly miffed last time....3-3 away was a decent score. But to do it again at home, nuts. It just shouldn't happen. No idea why Gerrard didn't change things....it was obvious they were gonna hit us late on again.

Still in our own hands, but that's a real pisser tonight!

The minute roofe scored we should have made a change, davis was on empty at that point, same as kent, even morelose tracking back was a half yard slower as he was humped

Id have brought on bassey itten and barker, pace, strength and energy

Should've made subs earlier as we were fucked last 25 minutes however not going to get too annoyed as let's be honest the subs would have been Aribo and Jack for Davis and Kamara if they had been fit. I couldn't really see who we could've brought on to make a difference in a game like that.

Another win and we're through. Positive outlook for me tonight especially when you look across the city and the shambles they are in.

Gerrard should have brought on fresh legs. Though our bench compared to theirs was night and day.

Players did us proud against a very decent team. Feel a bit deflated but it shows how far we've come.

Nearside linesman a wank for missing the penalty too 😡

Disappointed after being 2 up, but Benfica are a very good team.

Look back to what we were all saying after 2 games, that anything against them would be bonus.

We're 5 points clear with 2 to play and  Benfica have to play both of those, so we're in a good place.

They’ll be even more gutted than we are after their efforts

Yeah, absolutely.

Proud of the effort they put it but they'll know that should have been two wins against one of the biggest names in football and best teams outside the top 4 leagues.

Would've taken a draw in both games at the start but now it feels like defeats.  The players need to learn the art of playing in Europe.  When you get ahead by two or more goals and the opposition is pushing to get back into the game, waste as much time as possible.  Morelos, Roofe and Kent all took tough challenges looked in pain but then got right back up and got on with it.  If they just copied European teams and rolled around for a while and got the physio on it would've slowed things down.  We definitely should've done something after they got their first goal to kill their momentum.

The way we lost another lead after being two goals in front is pish

Not arguing with with that at all, this is a tournament where we continue to punch well above our weight, it's a fine day when we are raging at dropping points against  benfica.
