Europa last 32

There are some bloody big teams dropping down from the Champions League. Not sure it's something i like as a system. If you get six group games and don't progress why should you have a 'second chance' in the Europa? We've already got Roma, Arsenal, Spurs and AC Milan to possibly contend with and now there's Man Utd and Ajax dropping down along with the possibility of others among Athletico Madrid, Real Madrid, and Inter Milan. It would be fairer to engage a play off between best third place finishers in the Europa against the teams qualifying for the 'drop-down' from the CL. It might well end up the same list but there would be a fairer distribution of money.

Theoretically, if we were to draw tomorrow in Poland and Benfica beat Liege, we could end up drawing Man Utd, (who have already lost three times in the CL) and we could draw both games and go out on penalties. Our record would be:

P8  W3  D5  L0 and theirs would be

P8  W3  D2  L3 and we would go out.....fucked up if you ask me.

Agree with that mate . If you get horsed out of a cup . There is no way you should be dropping into another as losers . Especially as those clubs competing in this cup have put out so many others .Unfair but exciting if we are totally honest . Especially if we get Man Utd and turn those fuckers over :sarcasm:

We would never have been in the Uefa Cup final in 08 without third place teams dropping down, just saying..

I take your point but back then, there wasn't such a huge financial disparity between the two competitions as there is today. Even if we beat Poznan, our winnings would be about €7m, whereas Man Utd will exit the CL with €27.5m having played two games less before they take any money out of the Europa pot. In fact, they get an extra 500k just for 'reaching' the Europa last 32.....fucking crazy!

Did you say the same in 2008?

Shouldn't have so many teams from the same league in the "champions" league anyway. Might actually help other leagues get stronger instead of chucking money onto the same 4 big leagues every year where no one can catch up. Looks like it's actively encouraged that be the case by this system.

Most of the drop outs can’t be arsed with the Europa league and tend to go out quickly

That’s the whole post not of the CL. To make the big leagues stronger and keep the likes of rangers away

Bring on whomever, let's be honest - the league is the priority. I remember some on here not bothered if we got KOd out of qualifications round. We've done well, and hopefully top the group - but not bothered really about potential draws. I would like to see Man Utd, really think we could take them.

Mate there’s more to football than money (or at least there should be)  sick of every cunt always yakking on about it.

As has been said we wouldn’t have had the great run to the final in 2008 if there was no drop down from the CL. Wee Novo would never have took that penalty in Italy the Manchester cops would never have got kicked fuck out off 🤣

Ive no problem with it actually quite like that some bigger teams drop down into the competition.

It's the money that propels the so called 'elite' forward and the lack of it that holds those aspiring to join the top table back. It's a very real issue for us and always will be unless it changes.
