This game was free on a basic subscription I think as long as they think you are outside the UK. If it was a home game not included on the season pass you'd need to pay extra.

NOTE: Most VPNs let you connect simultaneously on multiple devices. Worth considering if you know a mate who already has a VPN or, perhaps, if a couple of you decide to share the cost of buying a VPN. You'd need to share the login details and password of course. Be sure you don't both login to the same RangersTV Account though. Big No-No!

Setting Up

Depends entirely on the device and the VPN provider. On a laptop or desktop, its generally a case of creating an account, paying up and then downloading the software from the provider's website and installing it. On a mobile device you will probably need to visit your App Store and download an app. You can usually leave the VPN on the default settings for setup.

A quick visit to the VPN provider’s website will usually uncover some guidance/instructions on installation if you are struggling.

Not many SmartTVs or games consoles will permit the installation of a VPN. A TV with an Android-based setup (usually Sony) has the best chance.

Testing it Works

Once you have the VPN installed is when the fun begins. Most will have a simple On/Off switch or button to activate or de-activate the VPN. Turn your VPN on.

Next step is to select an overseas server. Again, most VPNs will give you a range of options. Select one that is near to the UK (France, Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany etc) and connect your VPN to it.

Then close your browser and re-open it. Visit the website below and it will tell you where your computer thinks you are located. Hopefully it is the country you selected earlier. If not, go back to the VPN and select another server. Once you’ve checked out its working you are all good until its time to buy the game and can turn the VPN off.

Be aware that any VPN will slow your download speed. Some more than others. Basically, the better, paid-for, ones will usually have less impact and the free ones will cripple you.

Login and purchase the 3 Day Unlimited Pass for £9.99 using your existing RangersTV Account details (you do not need a second account, just to be clear). This gives you access to all RangersTV content for the 3 days, including the live match.

If you don’t see it offered then the VPN isn’t registering properly (or its not available for purchase yet, try later). Try turning off the VPN, clearing cache/cookies on your browser and closing it down. Then turn the VPN on again (overseas), fire up the browser and try again.

Be sure to logout when you are done. Being logged in twice can result in your Account being locked.

Viewing the Game

On the day of the match turn your VPN on (overseas) and login to RangersTV. Ideally about 1 hour before kick-off. Go to the Live tab in the top left and click on it. Next page should show the game listed and two options – Live Video and Live Audio. They might be grey at this stage but will turn red. If you only see Live Audio offered there is a VPN issue – follow the steps above to reset things.

When the Live Video icon goes red then click on it. Initially you will get a placeholder screen with the club crests on and a countdown timer in the bottom right to indicate when you can expect to see live footage.

If you run into buffering problems once the stream starts then go to the Settings cog in the bottom right and change it from Auto to 1080p or even lower and gauge whether that improves things.

Probably worth adding/reiterating.....

Don’t log in to Rangers TV without turning on your VPN first.
Your browser history will register you visited the site from the UK and it will prevent you watching game. You’ll get a message along the lines of ‘this game is only available outside the UK’.

If this happens, simply Log out of Rangers TV, delete your browsing history for the appropriate time frame, fire up the VPN, select a country then only log back into Rangers TV once the VPN has connected.

See if you have a live ST pass, but no subscription. Do you think you’ll need to use a different email to sign up?

I don’t think you do, as I have a VST, and all I had to do was turn on my VPN, log into RTV and I was able to purchase the three day pass. This is what mine is showing at the moment:

I’m using the same email as the one for my season ticket. Very odd indeed.

Just a heads up. Opera the Internet browser gives a built in VPN (just need to enable it in the settings of the browser). Just need to download the browser and tick one box - simple as that.

Completely free and works perfectly every time for me.

Got the 27 month plan for £52 (so it’s about £1.60 a month) which works for me as I often use American Netflix as well as BBC iPlayer etc when I’m abroad, they’ll be quite a few people who will obviously not be using it for other stuff so they’ll probably be better off getting a free one or a cheaper/shorter plan.
