Steven Gerrard in glowing Rangers tribute as he names the Ibrox power brokers 'key to it all'

Steven Gerrard insists the Ibrox board have "shown their class" to keep him going through tough times at Rangers.

The manager has paid tribute to the support network that has constantly backed him up since his arrival in April 2018.

Gerrard has steered Rangers towards a first Premiership title since 2011 as his side sit 23 points clear of Celtic.

At the weekend, he marked 150 games in charge with a 5-0 hammering of Ross County.

They have so far failed to win silverware in just under three years in charge, but Gerrard admits his backroom team and the club's power brokers have been unwavering in their commitment to him.

He told Sky Sports: "We've had some tough days, of course, but I've never sat there and thought, "I didn't expect this" or "This is too much for me."

"In those moments, you're looking for your support staff alongside you, which they have - they've been an absolute rock for me.

"The experience of Gary (McAllister), the quality of Mick (Beale), Tom (Culshaw) Jordan (Milsom) and Colin (Stewart), as my football support staff have been outstanding, the outer layers of that staff around the club and the training ground have been superb.

"But the key to it all is the board. My relationship with Ross (Wilson), Mark (Allen) previously, Stewart Robertson, Dave King originally and now Mr Park ( Douglas Park ) who took over from him - in your tough days and times when it's maybe not going how you want it to be, that's when they show their class and their support, and I've had that from day one."

Gerrard insists having such "phenomenal" support makes it easier to keep some of the pressure off his own shoulders.

He added: "I think we all try and share that pressure and demand. The buck stops with me, of course it does, but I knew signing up for this, when I had the original chats with the board. I knew it wasn't always going to be perfect, and an uphill journey.

"I knew there were going to be bumps and some challenges and some tough days.

"The questions you ask then are, 'are you going to be with me when they happen, for us to grow and learn and improve?'

"The support I've had so far has been phenomenal."

I do like that , "Mr Park",  we bit of a return of some respect and dignity to the club, hope this continues  through to the playing staff and we dont ever hear of a return to the days of firing shots at a manager's bare erse.

That what youd expect from ....... THEM!!!!!!!

Should be a good lesson in patience for us as a support.

That's coming from someone that wanted Gerrard out as early as October, pre Old-Form game, because he started Barker in the win at the piggery

Well I said I wanted him out if we lost purely because he started Barker.

Has no one told him Rangers Media know he was for quitting just before Covid ended last season prematurely?
