Champions League 2024: New format with 10-match first phase set to be agreed

Football, like everything, is completely corrupted from its fundamental essence by the greed for more money.

it is inevitable. But how? How do they continue to make it more and more about the money? Because the punters continue to pay, that is how.

Like everything else, it only works as long as the masses continue to accept it. And let’s not pretend that we are not all contributors to the whole pyramid scheme. We might be missing out on the mega bucks, being from a provincial footballing backwater but we are top of that pyramid in Scotland.

I suppose the punters will eventually reject it and the game will normalise to some degree but probably not in my lifetime.

Wild card entries is something else. Means teams like AC Milan get rewarded for being absolutely shite for years in their domestic league with a CL spot. Mental

That's not quite how it works. It's based on your co-efficient so if a team has a high co-efficient but has a shocker of a season then they would qualify the next season. Milan's current co-efficient is lower than ours. If this kicked in next season they wouldn't be anywhere near it (if they finished outside the CL spots in Serie A).

Arsenal is probably a better example - haven't played in the CL for years but them and Liverpool have the highest co-efficients for teams not on course currently to qualify for the competition through league spots next year.

Even more tragic then. At least Milan have a bit of history in the competition . No surprise to see it probably going to the over-inflated, arrogant PL, potentially to a team like Arsenal who haven’t even won it and made the final once

Things are trending to an American style set up. A closed league of clubs (that might as well be franchises) around Europe, with no relegation and guaranteed access to television and other marketing revenues. Right now things are too risky because clubs can get relegated or miss out on qualifying. This is UEFA trying to compromise to satisfy those owners who want guaranteed access to those revenues. It probably won't stem the tide. The closed shop European Super League is still the logical endpoint.

Everything about football except Rangers is shit and getting worse.

We've only got the scum to beat, so there should be no concern with that. In fact, on top of 55, it would be the best opportunity for payback and just bury those cunts forever.

Spot on mate.
Not sure the position on fielding a second string for LC and SC ties, which would leave the squad fresh for the 10 CL matches on top of league matches.
Honestly think it would be the death of the tramps if our co-efficient got a boost from next seasons campaign.

In terms of next season - We are guaranteed European group stage football, right?

Worst case scenario - Champions League 3rd Qualifying Round (Lose) > Europa League Playoffs (Lose) > Conference League Groups

Or - Champions League 3rd Qualifying Round (Win) > Champions League Playoffs (Lose) > Europa League Groups

and the one we are aiming for (and get I believe) - Champions League 3rd Qualifying Round (Win) > Champions League Playoffs (Win) > Champions League Groups

tweaked that so it was more realistic pal.

We should nail them to the floor next season.

However, in the Champions League...

Imagine the scenes.
