Reports: Rangers to Offer Kent a New Deal

Rangers are set to slap a bumper new deal on the table for Ryan Kent in a bid to tell Leeds United to get lost for at least another season.

The in-demand Ibrox attacker had EPL scouts on red alert at the weekend after ripping Celtic to ribbons in Sunday’s Old Firm stroll.

Kent is a long term target for Elland Road boss Marcelo Bielsa – who had bids of up to £10m bounced by Rangers last summer.

The Premier League side are gearing up for another attempt at the end of this season despite being told the former Liverpool kid is not for sale.

Ibrox gaffer Steven Gerrard wants Kent on board for the Champions League assault next term and is willing to offer a hike in wages to persuade the wide man to ignore the calls from down south.

The 24-year-old is under contract until 2023 and Gers plan to cash in at some point.

But Ibrox chiefs also want to maximise their profit on the £7.5m signing and starring in the Champions League could sent his value sky-rocketing.

The Light Blues have been working on deals for current stars in the background but with the Premiership in the bag and the Scottish Cup no longer an issue, Gerrard and the board are poised to get down to work.

Defender Connor Goldson is expected to extend his deal as is Glen Kamara and Jermain Defoe’s future is to be addressed but Kent’s situation is a top priority.

Gers legend Mark Hateley has warned he expects Leeds to be banging on the door again this summer after his star turns this season.

Hateley – speaking on his Ten10 podcast – said: “Listen, Leeds have got him on their radar right, they have twice come in for him.

“They will be hoping it’s third time lucky.

“They have done well down in the English Premier League.

“They know what they need, they need somebody that can open something up in the blink of an eye, Kent is the boy that can do that.

“You pay £20m to stick somebody on the bench down in the English Premier League, that is the way it is.

“Kent has got this ability to turn a game in the blink of an eye.”

Fellow Rangers hero Barry Ferguson has urged his old club to resist the temptation to cash in now as Kent has become a crucial part of the club’s success this season.

He said: “I just hope he is one player that the manager is allowed to keep. I’m sure if clubs down south like Leeds and other clubs were watching the game, he was the stand out performer.

“I know Roofe came in and scored a double but for me Ryan Kent was the outstanding player on the park by a country mile.”

Kent is understood to be relaxed about his future and is relishing life at Rangers.

He admitted at the weekend he has been flattered by the Leeds pursuit – but he’s got his sights set on Europe next term.

Kent said: “It’s nice to be linked with other football clubs, the big clubs, but you’ve got to understand the duty of where you’re at and as long as I’m at Rangers I’ll always give 100 percent to the club.

“I love this place and it’s done so much for me. As long as I am here my mind is solely focused on Rangers.

“Is the Champions League a motivation? Massive.”

Gers have already started the recruitment drive for next term with a deal for Oostende forward Fashion Sakala expected to be sealed this week.

But midfielder Bongani Zungu’s time the club is over after the Amiens boss Oswald Tanchot revealed the 28-year-old will be heading back to France at the end of term.

Rangers have opted against making the playmaker’s move permanent after he failed to make an impact in Glasgow and is suspended for the remainder of the campaign due to covid breaches.

Amiens manager Tanchot expects the South African international on board again and said: “This season we have used 40 players which is far, far too much. It’s hard to create anything with that turnaround.

“For next season, we won’t have the services of loan players Molla Wague and Racine Coly who will return to their parent club.

“But we will have Bongani Zungu back, who has a year left of his contract with us.”

From the Record, it's from last night but haven't seen it posted yet, may have just missed it

Extending Kent's contract would be our best bit of business this summer - regardless of who we sign. There were articles just like this ("Rangers set to open talks", etc.) published just a day or two before Tav officially extended his deal - so hopefully the same happens here.

This is what happens when you have a good manager who is looking after his players, the players then will (more often than not) look after the manager.

The likes of Kent, Tav, Goldson, Morelos aren't going to be cunts to Gerrard and fuck him over let alone the club, they are going to make gentleman's agreements sign deals on the premise they know they will be sold for a fee that is fair and eventually make their wedge.

If this happens like the other deals extended, it is the player helping the club get a few more million for them in return for a few more grand a week for them.

i.e utterly removed from the situation which a player like Eduard is going to depart celtic.

Good, get him tied down until 2025 at least.

Sounds like that article is saying Kamara is expected to sign a new deal, excellent if true.

Defoe is a class act, but time for him to go elsewhere.

If Defoe had scored a hat trick on Sunday you would still want rid of him. He is as fit as anyone and is an example to the younger players. He is definately worth another year - at least!

Not sure he would want another year himself. He wants to keep playing football and I can’t see him getting much regularly here next season

It will depend on who goes. I would like him to stay as a player/coach to develop the academy players.

He's played a grant total of 589 minutes this season and you want to give him 'at least' another year. Fucking hell.

Nearly 200 minutes of those were against Cove Rangers, Falkirk and Lincoln FC.

And with limited time he is still 10th on our scorers' list and 9th for assists. I would leave it up to him. If he wants to go to get more game time then I wouldn't complain but if he wants to stay then I think he is a valuable player to have on the bench.

Should have his wage to match the top earners in Morelos and Goldson. Should keep the sharks at bay for another season.

Given the fee we paid for him it seems strange that he isn't already at that level really.

He has came a long way since putting in the worst performance ever against Motherwell back in February :pipe:

All joking aside Kent has taken a lot of abuse on here aswell as the high praise....perhaps his numbers last season weren't as great as his overall game actuallywas....this season he has the numbers to back up his play, he totally terrorises them....another season like this season please with even more consistency and he will be player of the year

Get him tied down. Deserves a pay rise to put him with the top earners (If he isnt already there?)

If he continues to improve his numbers and puts in performances in Europe then I see no reason why he couldn't get a call up, few players can do when he can.
