Was / is Nacho Novo underrated?

Been watching some of the Rangers Archives this evening, and some of the goals Novo scored were absolute belters and often very important ones.

Have memories of Sir Walter leaving him out quite regularly, and not sure I thought he was that good at the time. Thought he was quick, but touch and finishing weren’t that good. Might have just been spoiled back then and in previous seasons though.

Some big big goals, and of course there’s the UEFA cup semi final penalty.

He was a limited player who squeezed every ounce he could out himself with his work rate and passion for our club. The wee man scored goals than won us cups, leagues and took us to the UEFA Cup final. He made us millions scoring v Red Star to take us to the CL. For 500K he’s probably pound for pound our best ever signing He’s held in the esteem he should be.

Was unreal in that 04/05 season with Prso up top. Smith constantly punting him out wide didn't help him but he's always valued work-rate in his wide men and he could play that role.

Maybe we could have played him up front more often but we always had really good options for his position I suppose.

Pound for pound one of our best signings ever.

Not in terms of talent (although he was a better play than maybe history will remember him as), but in terms of value back to the club for the money paid.

Scored the goal to qualify for the CL (Red Star), cup final winners (Falkirk), the penalty to take us to the UEFA Cup final, plenty of crucial goals against the tarriers, plus a goal on a certain Sunday that will forever be one of our clubs greatest days.

Loved him, always gave his all and what a pairing with Dado.

However, I don't think he ever got over missing out on the starting berth in the UEFA Cup Final.

Remember seeing him walk round the pitch the next day utterly dejected. Held his nerve with the winning penalty in the semi final then dropped to the bench for the final. Walter had his reasons but he was gutted.

Should have started in Manchester.

He was one of those players that cause he had quite fast pace can end up put out on the wing when he really wants to be played through the middle and never really cements that place upfront.

Great player though plenty of happy memories of him.

Agree he should have started in Manchester and must have been a personal blow to the player big time.

Also I'm sure lovenkrands was in a similar situation. Would have preferred thru the middle but pace decided otherwise

At least Novo got involved when playing out wide , Lovenkrands could be invisible , at games all you heard most of the game was McLeish shouting "Peter Peter!!!". Lad got it tight.

Interesting to see people's opinions on maybe our top 10 best pound for pound signings.

U can start

Our best pound for pound signing will be someone we signed for free. If we're only counting people we paid a fee for, McCoist at £185,000 might take some beating.
