A great personification of economic illiteracy

I’ve heard the Pound, the Euro and their own currency from the Natz spokespeople. I’d have thought having currency would be quite important for a country. Perhaps bartering will figure high in their economic strategy.

See your last sentence there - ‘it’s the most favourable loan anyone can get’ - that makes it a debt. You can argue to your heart’s content, but it is a debt. And a 21 year old coming out of uni, with potentially £40k approx debt from uni fees is wrong, imo. The SNP don’t levy that debt. Fair play to them.

Im kind of on the fence with this one .

As much as we all want to see a free education at university , can we afford it ? Some of these graduates , a few years down the line , will be making the kind of money that the rest of us can only dream about . Is it that bad to expect them to pay a bit back once they're on a decent wage ? You can't help but think it would Improve our education system further , instead of an across the board hike in taxes .

One thing I'm not on the fence about is the free prescriptions.  Iirc , I think just over 90% of Scots qualified before it became ' free ' . That means the 10% that could easily afford it are the ones to have gained out it . Given the state of our health system right now I reckon we could be doing with that extra funding right now .

Edit - not aimed at you specifically,  but I think it's time to move this out of BD - starting to feel guilty posting this in here

Yes, let’s cut to the chase. I went to uni and was not charged tuition fees. My daughter went to uni and was not charged tuition fees. My partner is just finishing uni and has not been charged tuition fees. A Scottish uni education is free to Scottish pupils.

All my kids have had/are having free primary and secondary education as well. As did I, and you, unless you went to a fee paying school.

They also have had/are having free health care. As have I, and you (almost certainly).

They also have had/are having free dental care (eventually). As did I, and probably you.

Imagine that; a socialist who doesn't understand how economics works.

Oooooh, capital letters again!!!!

University education was regarded as free. We all know that. And it still is, in Scotland - which it is, at source. Just like health, as you covered there. When our young people walk into a lecture they are not charged in this country. They are in England. When we walk into the emergency department we are not charged.

And I will continue supporting that ideology. It’s an ideology that believes that young people shouldn’t be saddled with huge amounts of debt, just to get a good education.

Re higher taxes - I potentially support that, but a different approach may be more beneficial.  Cuts in services? I think they still happen in countries which charge for university education? Don’t they? And that’s down to the incompetence and weakness of government - here and elsewhere.

unless you come from anywhere else but England, Northern Ireland or wales

but yeah thats not bigoted at all

STV news tonight, 14 arrests for public disorders following orange walk on Saturday. Then went on to say a few were for sectarianism singing and they will view CCTV.  This is what we are up against. There are more arrests on a Saturday night and STV would not report it.

Who is it that this is up against?
