Newcastle is a great city, I’ve lived in Glasgow, Plymouth, London, Exeter, Birmingham and it tops the lot. 10 years ago it was stag do capital, nowadays it’s full of top quality restaurants, bars and has more listed buildings per square meter than any other UK city. Northumberland Coast is generally stunning once your past Bedlington, much better than Devons (although a bit colder). Tyne Valley/Hadrian’s Wall is only 20 minutes from the city, TV especially is where the likes of Fred Goodwin and a lot of other retired city bankers move to. Shearer lives in Darras Hall, near Ponteland which is only about 6 miles out from the city. I love about 2 miles away, every man and his dog knows he lives there. Keegan lives abroad and is rarely in the UK at all these days. Most footballers for NUFC live either in Jesmond (not the student bit), Ponteland or Tynemouth.
