Without doubt. There's VERY few people you can say this about it any club but Rangers owe part of what we are as a club to Walter Smith rather than the other way around.

He was. That's why Gerrard seemed so emotional about it rather than him 'just' being a legendary figure of the club's past.

When you see Gerrards interview you can tell he had a closer relationship with the gaffer than most thought. Sure I remember Mick Beale speaking about how much of an influence he was in an interview a year or so ago.

How about changing the names of Champions Den to Walter Smith Den for a while. Wee board tribute to the man. Just an idea, so no worries at all if not accepted.

For someone you don't know personally to give you so many good memories and his passing to hurt every one of us so badly, shows what a mean feat it is to be a Legend.

I’ve always seen Sir Alex Ferguson and Walter Smith as kindered spirits in that regard. Two powerhouses who stamped their personalities all over elite level football clubs and left footprints which will still be visible 100 years from now.

All the league titles, The Euro runs but the game that Typifies what Walter could do for us as manager was winning the cup against St Mirren with 9 men.

We don’t win that game with any other manager in dug out.

That was something Goodwin mentioned earlier in the St M presser (I've not clipped the video yet)

“I had a wee thought for Sir Alex Ferguson this morning when I heard the news because I know they were very close.

“I had the pleasure of meeting Sir Alex a couple of seasons ago as well and he was talking about Mr Smith so my heart goes out to him"

He also added "Mr Smith" wasn't at the event which made it stand out even more that Ferguson was talking about him.

A touching tale of Walter Smith in Largs has emerged following the football great sadly passing aged 73. 

Sharing her story online, Jill Paterson says she came across the Rangers legend when she worked in Charlie Smith's pub in the town. 

She said: "A young guy came into the bar and said; 'I play for Everton, do you know if my manager is in?' Indeed he was, standing on top of a table belting out King of the Road on the karaoke, good times.'"

Jill says Walter and his players were in the pub regularly, after training at Invercylde Sports Centre. 

She added: "He was a great man, the life and soul. Not many are made like him anymore sadly."

Tributes have been paid throughout the day to the Scottish football legend, who led Rangers to ten top-flight titles, five Scottish Cups, six League Cups and the UEFA Cup final in 2008.

As has been said in earlier posts a “Legend” in every sense of the word.

The Rangers Family have lost an icon, we can only strive to follow his example. 

I actually saw him playing, I’m sure it was Dumbarton iirc Uncompromising was the word.

Man could certainly pick a team for the big event.

Still absolutely gutted about this and can't quite take it in. He was my hero growing up and so many good memories associated with him. Read some of the tributes earlier and he is held it the utmost regard in football circles. Greatest ever Ranger without a doubt imo.

The great tribute the club and players can give Walter is to win the league this year and dedicate it to him. A treble would just tick all the boxes but I’d settle for the league.

I must admit I’m so glad Walter and his family and friends had the privacy afforded to them over the last few months.
