I'm sure most of us on here grew up with Walter as manager and it probably makes it hit home that wee bit harder than some of the older legends who have passed. Quite simply one of THE most important people in our club's history. Even with Waddell and Wallace being the men behind Barcelona 72, Smith stands above, shoulder to shoulder with Struth, in our Club’s history. Statues have lost their value outside some football stadiums across the world but I think I speak for everyone in saying that Walter Smith absolutely deserves one the opposite side of the main stand from Greig. Fucksake man. kelvd1873, tommyw, BridgeIsBlue and 18 others

Every good memory is of him and our 9iar team But that 3 in a row team proved to the world that the shite about cheque book manager etc was nonsnese. He came back imo a better manager and for 2008 I'll always be thankful. He took us on a fucking journey and gave so much of his life to this club. And to Ethel, thanks for letting him come back the 2nd time as she wasn't going to legend. Popular Post DrLaudrup 4,563
There are no words that can describe the sadness our club and support will feel today. Not only a great man and a great manager but someone who consistently and unambiguously always had the best interests of Rangers at heart, especially during the bad times. He represented all of the values that a Rangers manager should have, and the founding fathers and Mr Struth would have recognised themselves in Walter Smith. In the time I grew up following us he WAS Rangers. I’ll always cherish the great memories he gave but most importantly this is a personal tragedy for his family and all our wishes should be with them. RIP gaffer. debs1970, DW1872, geneva_ger and 2 others
Snake Plissken 151
I remember reading how hard Smith worked to get Beasley to play here and how much he was loved by everyone who played for him. My favorite player of all time, Claudio Reyna, even said that his time at Rangers was made all the more sweeter by having this man at the helm. When I first started watching Rangers, he was the man in charge. I'm heartbroken. Not just a great coach, but a great man also. A loss not just to us but to the world. RIP.
