The Portuguese league vs ours

Recommended Posts

Over the past 20 odd years our record (and theirs) against the teams from that league must be equal if not better, yet the transfer fees and TV deal going about over there are astronomical compared to ours. To be fair they've a big 3/ 4 teams compared to our 2 but to me just again shows up the failure of those meant to be leading our game in how we market ourselves. I know we live in the shadow of the English Premier league but they live in the shadow of the Spanish La Liga. For some reason that seems to work to their advantage whereas it's almost used as an excuse for the pitiful amounts we receive. Just pretty depressing we seem stuck with what we've got.

Makes a good point mate but the answer is simple that lawell and that puppet looking cunt Doncaster fucked it with their selfishness in trying to benefit one club when they chose sentanta over SKY

If they had chose SKY back then we’d be in a far better position now instead sky have never forgiven them and throw pennies at us.

pair of child touching weirdo fenian bastards fucked it as usual

The Portuguese team usually do well in Europe so generate more cash and outside interest. If Scotland gets a better TV deal it will be off the back of our exploites in Europe and the interest it generate from counties with big football audiences. Europe and a good run in it is where the real money is for us and should be one of our main objectives every season.

Have you seen the Portugese national team. Most likely started in Portugal. They are miles ahead - we do get decent results against them, but mainly against second rate teams. Benfica gave Liverpool a good go and they are third in the league.

With us being a bit of a force in Europe over the past few years, the national team qualifying for major tournaments and Scotland producing stars like Robertson  McGinn and Gilmour, its feels as though Scottish football is having a bit of a resurgence and increasing in reputation. You'd like to think that competent leadership would be able to take advantage of that, but unfortunately we have some of the most inept people in any job, anywhere, running our game.

We have done well against the three big teams in Portugal. Not 2nd rate ones

Im pretty sure teams like Benfica have their own TV deal? Sure I read something a while ago. Getting young talent out of South America and selling at huge profits also helps. Well run clubs.

Well im not really sure you can call Benfica a 'well run club' given their Chairman was arrested this year for money laundering and there is basically a civil war at the club.

Im obviously on about the financial side of things. They have reduced their debts around 190 million euro since 2016 and were posting net profits of 105 million euro in 19/20.. this is 16 years after they almost went bust.
