I mean, I doubt he's talking about Bassey.

Whilst Ajax aren't having a great Season they have similar expectations to the ones Goldson is talking about.

Bassey has been getting absolutely slaughtered. Ajax fans are not at all impressed.

I don't imagine he's happier.

That's obviously not the point being made. One of the reasons he's maybe not as happy is because of that expectation that Goldson is talking about.

He said players, are they happy.

I don't imagine Bassey and Aribo have been happier since leaving Rangers, would you?

Aribo not getting a game, Bassey getting slaughtered, Ajax having a tough season, Southampton being Southampton.

The very first question Goldson asks, is all I'm responding to man, it's no that deep 😂

Yes but he answers that question by saying it’s because the clubs don’t demand success like ours, and Ajax absolutely do

He's obviously not talking about Bassey though given the context of why he's asking if they're happy.

I like the big man, he's been solid for us since arriving.

Not spectacular, if he had been, he'd be somewhere else, but consistently decent and dependable. Sure he's got a mistake in him, everyone has at this level, but he's a leader on the pitch, and a very decent player for us. Him and Davies are thankfully bringing some stability to our defence, finally. If they had a decent keeper behind them, someone they knew they could depend on, they'd no doubt be even more confident.

Why shouldn’t he try get the best deal from the club he can? Loads of players run their contracts down these days.

I don't blame him, mate; it is the sensible thing to do these days. He comes across as really staunch in that interview as if re-signing was never in doubt. I'm not so sure about that. Now that he has a long-term deal, I love his loyalty, but we all questioned it this time last year.

I still think Goldson would have left if someone gave him a better offer. If not, why did he wait so long to re-sign?

Get a better sign on fee perhaps. Maybe we couldn't give him a massive bump in wages as it may unsettle the squad, but ~1m and similar wages to what he was on, would be hard fought to replace him for that sort of money.

I guess you just have to hope Kent and Morelos are maybe in the same boat, if the right offer from a perceived bigger club comes in (eg EPL/serie A/La Liga) then aye they'd be off but maybe they are waiting to see what the club offers them come their contracts running out.

We were due Brighton extra money if he'd renewed the contract, allowing it to expire voided the clause.

The extra cash allowed us to offer Goldson better terms on the new deal too.

We both won, Brighton lost.
