The sort of steel people want in the team would see us down to 10 men in every game.

Wonder what these people also see a DoF role as, cause it is literally absolutely fuck all to do with the players on the park once the DoF signs them for the head coach

You get the impression that people think someone like souness as DoF will take time out from his day of co-ordinating the football side of the club and the financial side of the club, to head to auchenhowie after a shit result and spend the day booting fuck out the players lol

It's lunacy sometimes, we see how players react to that sort of treatment now too.

Can you imagine a manager staying if the DOF did that too?

Very few are saying we need a DOF to put fear into players. But it is clear to see we need one.

Trusting Bisgrove or Bennett to pick the proper football brains is the concern. We are still paying the price from Wilson's summer signings from over a year ago.

really where are you getting that from?  or is that your thinking

no one is saying we want players to put in flying tackles all the time you can have a 'steelness' in players without them getting sent off in every game, a player with the desire to win and not get steamrollered by shit teams and players

I know we may need a DoF, but souness has absolutely no credentials to be a manager now nevermind a DoF,

Wether we like it or not, a DoF will first and foremost work for the best interests of the board and what they want, budgets, etc, they will be the focal point of all aspects of the footballing side from the lowest age groups to the senior team, scouting network, agency network,

There is definitely guys out there with that ability, but souness has absolutely none of that, he never has been in anything like that

I don't really see Cifuentes, Lundstram, Jack, Dowell, Cantwell and Raskin as lacking 'steel'. The bigger issue is how they're set up and their ability.

After the first loss under Souness as DoF he'd be blaming Paul Pogo.

Think some mental toughness, gamesmanship and an old fashioned will to win whatever it takes approach would be welcome in our squad.

I think we need a DOF because I look at the leadership structure just now and wonder who is capable of stitching together: the possible Beale decision (and finding his replacement), the “ripping up” of the scouting department, and making sure there’s a development plan for Rice now he’s signed a new deal.

Even if you just look at the rumours about a late Barisic departure: if a decent bid had come in, and it’s true that someone within the club had started the process of replacing our manager (who basically had the final say on recruitment this summer), who makes the call on that sale? It’s a tricky issue if the sale impacts “Beale’s” January budget, but the club are already unsure if he’ll be in a job by then.

It seems we defo approached Potter it's in this mornings daily mail also although I haven't read it.

They are quoting an article in the Sun…

Not saying it’s not true, but certainly not bringing any new quotes or anything.

Lol Souness, you do know he said last night Maddison is a better player than Bellingham

Exactly, he's extremely out of touch. He was our manager 30 years ago was last a manager 15/20 years ago. What makes people think it would work?

Doubt it. It would take more than one player with those qualities. We’ve a cb who wraps it at half time, a left back who visibly crumbles at their dump, and numerous other players who simply don’t step up when it’s needed.

It’s at the stage that over the last six months that there has pretty much only been three players who had the guts and try to get the ball and run past players whenever they had the chance (not always successfully, alas) - Sakala, Matondo and Wright.
