Absolutely ridiculous decision, because Legia hadn't actually registered the player as part of their squad it was deemed the suspension hadn't yet come into effect. He wasn't registered because he couldn't play due to suspension. This isn't a case of Legia flaunting the rules or even UEFA twisting the rules, it is simply a very grey area where no party is right or wrong and for that reason Legia should be reinstated and UEFA should have their rules written in a very straight forward black and white set of legislation, because as far as Legia were concerned the player in question had missed the first 3 European games.

Yeah you would think he's not played a part in those games, therefore suspension served.

I can't imagine anyone outside Celtic, Legia and Rangers fans caring one bit about this.

This has made headlines in quite a few places it seems.

Didn't you see the newspaper article from the New York Times for example? Other US newspapers have had similar articles.

Its been discussed a few times on Talksport to a UK audience and I saw the twitter stuff with the likes of Balloteli promoting the "Let Football Win" campaign in another thread

.

Its also shining a light at them that is helping to highlight their shameful history and current corruption accusations.

Long may it continue. The last thing these bheasts need right now is an enemy outwith this corrupt little backwater.

As someone else said, this may actually assist those Bears who are fighting to see justice catch up with the scum.

Septic fc...always cheated never defeated

Realistically do Maribor have any chance of beating them?

Maribor are a stronger team than Legia, no question. They are also much better than the Maribor we faced a few years ago.

Timmy will need every favour pulled in, and then some, if they are to walk away with anything other than the world's poorly muffled laughter ringing in their ears.

Maybe a bit hopeful here think uefa have upheld the verdict knowing full well it will be overturned by the cas, thus preventing the endless moaning from the dhims. Uefa can wash their hands of it and football wins, seems a bit far fetched but have a read of cas statement they seem very keen to get involved and have stressed how quickly they could act, possible decision by Monday. Either that or they want double time for working weekend

The bheast was not only beaten on the field of play but duly hammered over 2 legs. The bheast support fought with each other at Murrayfield as they could not accept what they witnessed.

The bheast was given a reprieve through out and out cheating now the bheast is happy. The defeat on the field of play has been forgotten and the bheast now gloats at a corrupt victory in a kangaroo court.

This is the bheast way in all its bheastly glory as Polish football and football itself loses heavily.

Uefa's disciplinary sanction for fielding a suspended player is for the match to be forfeited 3-0, a result which saw Celtic progress to the next round on away goals, having lost the first leg in Poland 4-1.

Now Legia must submit their case in writing by close of business on Friday if Cas is to hear the case on Monday.

"Cas can either render a decision on request for provisional measures (if requested by Legia) or organise an expedited procedure (with the agreement of Uefa) with a hearing on Monday and a decision on the same day," a spokesman for Cas said.

"The appeal shall be in writing; the other steps of the procedure can be determined by agreement between Legia and Uefa (hearing or no hearing, procedural calendar, etc)."

A provisional measure could be reached if all sides do not agree to the fast-track appeal procedure. In those circumstances, Cas would rule on the validity of Legia's case, essentially providing the club with a verdict before proceeding to the full appeals procedure.

Uefa would have to abide by Cas's decision, and so could reinstate Legia to the Champions League if the court found in the Polish club's favour.

A ruling in Uefa's favour would leave Legia with only the Swiss courts as a final recourse.

That's about as 'well put' as you could put it!

CAS could hear Legia appeal prior to Celtic's play-off tie with Maribor

The Court of Arbitration for Sport could arrive at a decision on Legia Warsaw's appeal to be reinstated in the Champions League as early as Monday.

Matthieu Reeb, the secretary general of the organisation, has also made clear that CAS can make an urgent decision which does not require a full-scale hearing at which Legia and UEFA would require to be present.

On Thursday, the Polish club exhausted UEFA's appeals process over their elimination from the competition having fielded a suspended player in their second leg match with Celtic in the third qualifying round.

The Scots progressed to the play-off round at Legia's expense following the decision to force a forfeit, giving Celtic a 3-0 home win which sent them through on away goals.

After their failure to reverse the decision in Switzerland, Legia Warsaw have stated their intention to take the matter to CAS and Reeb has made clear to STV that an outcome could be reached before Celtic are scheduled to take on Slovenian side Maribor in the first leg of the play-off round on Wednesday.

"We can organise a fast-track procedure which takes into account the time constraints and whatever kind of decision, be it an order or final award, and we can try to do it within the appropriate time," said Reeb.

"It's possible if the parties are prepared to do that. All our councils, parties, all people involved in this matter should be available on short notice.

"If there is an appeal, it should be filed as soon as possible so that the start of the procedure is not delayed. We can also use Saturday and Sunday to work on this case. It is feasible but there is no time to lose.

"It depends on what is requested by Legia. If the request is to declare the UEFA decision illegal or contrary to the rules, it is a legal discussion and we should be able to provide an answer after reviewing not only the UEFA decision and the rules, but also the arguments of the parties. This can be done on a short time frame.

"If I take the Suarez case, we took three weeks to solve the case. of course we need to do it much quicker here. We have examples in other sports, for example when disciplinary matters like doping were concerned.

"CAS is ready to face that kind of situation. If we can have a panel of arbitrators available on short notice, we will be happy to organise a hearing as soon as possible. But if not, it will be possible for CAS to render a decision on request for urgent provisional measures."

The prospect of gathering representatives from UEFA, Legia and CAS at the latter's base in Lausanne, Switzerland by the start of next week is a possibility.

But even if all parties are unable to agree to a hearing in time, Legia can request what CAS call "provisional measures".

That would involve the club receiving a CAS verdict on the admissibility of the case before proceeding to full-scale arbitration and could lead to Legia being reinstated.

"If Legia would request CAS to render a decision by way of provisional measures, this could at least give an answer to the case before the start of the competition," Reeb added.

"But if the parties are also ready we could organise a hearing say for example for Monday so that the case is resolved for all.

"I can not say what will happen because this is a matter which has to be decided by other people than me. But I understand the case and the question will be whether the fielding of a player who was apparently suspended would lead to the forfeiture of the game or not.

"Either there is a request for provisional measures filed by Legia together with the appeal which would allow the president of the appeals division of CAS to render a decision which would for example say that Legia should be reinstated in the competition and participate in the tournament.

"Or whether the request is dismissed which means that the current situation is maintained and Celtic would be eligible to play the first match next week."

More upbeat than the other mob.

Matthieu Reeb from the CAS seems to be inviting Legia to make an appeal to them ASAP.

Hope they go for it as Reeb seems really keen on overturning this by the looks of it.

thats exactly the way I read it thats what made me think uefa wanted to uphold their decision, bullshit rule but uefa really had to uphold their own law or they may have been subject to legal action by celtic whereas unless im wrong cas can call it as they see fit anf overrule

Looked to me like he was just outlining the possible procedures in a neutral way, and if anything, the bit saying "I understand the case and the question will be whether the fielding of a player who was apparently suspended would lead to the forfeiture of the game or not" sounded negative to me.

Either way, he's not the one who does the judging.
