Ibroxblue 131
Broadfoot's Plea For A Rangers Game Dec 21 2007 By Colin Duncan JUST like thousands of other people across the country Kirk Broadfoot has requested a football strip for Christmas this year. The defender is desperate to get his hands on a Rangers jersey with No.21 on the back as he attempts to re-ignite his Ibrox career over the festive period. Broadfoot, who hasn't featured since September, knows his present of choice won't come gift-wrapped from manager Walter Smith. However, with Rangers facing a hefty schedule of nine games in the space of 30 days the 23-year-old is hoping his services will be required and his Christmas wish granted. The former St Mirren man is not the only player at Ibrox struggling to get a game with Thomas Buffel, Amdy Faye, Alan Gow and Chris Burke all finding it nigh on impossible to get an appearance under their belts. All have been mentioned as possible loan departures when the transfer window opens in January but after making so many sacrifices to win a dream move to his boyhood heroes, Broadfoot is determined to stay and fight for his place. He said: "It's been difficult not playing but I expected that to be the case for the first six months, maybe even a year. "But hopefully with the amount of games coming up over the festive period I can get a game. "I'm hoping that I'll be brought in for one or two of them and prove I can do a good job." Despite getting off to flying start with Rangers the defender, who capped his domestic home debut with a goal in the 7-2 rout of Falkirk, has not played since the CIS Cup clash with East Fife three months ago. Yet, while adjusting to a routine of reserve football has been tough Broadfoot remains upbeat about his chances of making a break through at Ibrox following his Bosman switch from St Mirren last summer. Patience is also a virtue he's had to embrace with the central defensive pairing of Carlos Cuellar and Davie Weir preventing him adding to his five first-team appearances. Broadfoot said: "I certainly haven't come all this way to give up without a fight. "The manager hasn't spoken to me about going on loan and I don't think I want to do that anyway. "I'd rather stay and fight for my place. This is the club I've supported all my life and I'm not going to chuck it after just six months. "I'm confident I can make it. What is half a year out of your entire career? I'm young so time is on my side. There have been better players than me here who didn't play right away. "I don't think you can afford to let it get you down. If you do that there would be no point coming in to training every day. "The manager and coaches have told me I have to be patient and that I've got a bit to learn. I'm desperate to play but how can Davie Weir or Carlos Cuellar be dropped when they are doing so well? "I can also play full-back although trying to dislodge Alan Hutton at the moment is an even tougher job. He's rated in the top 10 young players in the world - that says it all. "But I don't think all these guys will be here for ever so I have to be ready if they move on. "Of course I can't wait for ever, but for the moment I'll bide my time." What Broadfoot does have in his favour are the physical capabilities, the fitness levels and a work ethic few players in the SPL can match. Alongside fellow Ayrshireman Hutton he is widely regarded as the best athlete at Ibrox. For the past two years the Drongan youngster has spent virtually every waking hour in the gym or on the training ground. He said: "I worked my socks off to get here. Last year I had no life at StMirren because I trained so hard during my first season in the SPL to make sure I got a move. I relish the hard graft. "At StMirren I wouldn't leave the ground until 5.30pm every day. After training I would spend hours in the gym and doing speed work with the fitness coach. "When I got home I was shattered so I would fall asleep and that was my night over. I didn't have any social life but those are the sacrifices you must make if you want to be a footballer." http://www.<No links to this website>/sport/footbal...86908-20261674/

fejj182 0
Nice to see we have a wee bit of compassion in us lads , you can see he has worked extremely hard to get to rangers, and has sacrificed more than some of the wasters we have at the mo, don't kick a man when he's down

FlippinEck 3,844
In all honesty, seeing him at St Mirren, I didnt think of him as a Future star player in scotland, not like a christophe berra for example
mark_ni 12
dont think hes got a hope of getting a game except maybe in the cup. Just not good enough at the minute, i think we should loan him out for the rest of the season.

CanadianGer 1
if he can turn that desire into fire in the belly to motivate him to raise his game and get to the required standard, then great. Otherwise as others have said, its just going to be greetin'.

Boab 73
Deserves a chance I agree but according to you, then Gow would then? Doesn't seem so
Rohan 26
He'd probably do a better job for us in an attacking midfield role at the moment he's got some decent ball skills
Craigy 0
Deserves a chance I agree but according to you, then Gow would then? Doesn't seem so No not at the moment but is there any player putting in as much work as Broadfoot? I highly doubt Gow is putting in as much extra work. Broadfoots not just saying i will do this or that etc he is trying to show the Gaffer how willing he is to work to get a place in the team.
Muff 245
I remember last season at Love Street he went on a few runs against us, turned Ferguson and Hemdani inside out on occassions. I dont know if he will ever be good enough but at least he's willing to work hard and fight for a place.
Rohan 26
Hmm, I didn't acctually read the last bit of the article until now. If he's putting in as much work as he says he is, he should be the first to get a call into the first team. Not many players can be bothered to work that hard, quite impressed with that!
