the bears ba's 1
Evening folks, my wife and i treated ourselves to a new laptop at christmas (Acer Aspire 5720Z). When we log on, to get an internet connection, we have to click the start button and then "Connect to" to bring up our wireless connection. It doesn't take long, but i can't help thinking there must be a way to get the internet connection to enable as soon as were logged in. We have a D-Link modem/router set up with WPA encrytion, the laptop is running Vista Home Premium (2Gb Ram). Thanks in advance.
j1mgg 3,698
To be honest usually one you have connected and entered the security code it should automatically connect to it anytime you switch on you laptop as the default connection
J_RFC87 652
Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Manage Network Connections > Right click on the LAN network and select Properties. Unfortunatly, I don't have Vista on my laptop, only on my mai ncomputer so I don't know where to go from there. But what you're looking for is a box that looks like: So, select the "automatically detect an IP address". Also, the DNS server can be used, which makes slightly easier. You type in your prefered and alternative DNS server and this will always log into it easily. To get this address, you need to phone up your internet service provider (virgin, BT etc) and ask them.
