lola 0
Milan are set to extend Ronaldo’s contract as the Selecao star moves closer to full fitness. There had been doubts over El Fenomeno’s future when a series of injuries ruled him out for the first half of the season, but the former Inter man is back in action and looking sharp. Ronnie celebrated his return to the fray with a brace in the Nerazzurri’s 5-2 triumph over Napoli and is training hard to reach optimum fitness. He has always insisted that he wants to earn an extension to his contract - which is set to expire in June – rather than be handed one on the basis of his past achievements. Sources suggest that the new contract will keep him at San Siro until 2009 with an option for an extension to 2010. The 31-year-old is unlikely to receive a pay rise, but he will continue to claim 100 per cent of his image rights – a key factor in convincing him to move from Real Madrid where the rights are shared with the club. Ronaldo is likely to sit on the bench for tonight’s rescheduled Week 12 clash against Atalanta with Alberto Gilardino, Kaka and Alexandre Pato ready to start.
