Rangers scouting

How active are rangers at scouting? Surely there are players of a better quality than what we have at present out there for the taking? No one expects world beaters to turn up at Ibrox these days but it cant be that difficult to highlight better players than we have at present, from other european leagues and beyond that we could get for modest transfer fees and wages.

Even other SPL teams seem to pick up the odd talented foreigner on a more regular basis than we do.

A fair few of our squad just now cant do the basics and would be lucky to get a shirt for other SPL teams.

The weaknesses have been clear to see for years now and during this window surely new midfielders should have been the first pieces put in place? We need at least 3 new players who can create something or run at a man. I hope if any new faces do arrrive they have been well researched not like the farce of last season with the attempted panic buy of the Italian striker!

I hate to say this as a Big Walter Smith and SDM fan but the club has no obvious direction at present.

We don't have a scouting network.

We have Ewan Chester who does nothing (obvious).

We seemingly rely on playing a team and signing anyone who stands out against us.

Often wondered about the scouting network, or lack thereof. Rangers should be looking at Eastern Europe, Czech Republic etc maybe set up some sort of feeder club, and play each other in a friendly each year. Sick to the back teeth of Scottish diddys like Adam, McCulloch, and Dailly who have little, to no technical ability getting paid thousands a week for being shite. That money should be invested in a scouting network, not these overpriced diddys.

I'd really like to see us scouting La Liga, or touching base with a club in Portugal for example in order to get a foothold in that market. Look at Cuellar, playing for a team punching above their weight in an exceptionally technical league, and he looks like one of the best defenders to pull on the jersey. A Spanish, or Portugese (not Capucho!) playmaker is what we need right now, Steve Davis is all well and good, but a technical player in the mould of Arteta, or Deco (pushing it a bit, I know).

The players are out there, we aren't going to find technically gifted players in Scotland, we will find them in countries like Italy, Spain, and Portugal, we just need to cut the diddys from the squad, and invest it in a scouting network that will source the talent for tomorrow.

we should have scouts at every major youth tournament ie Olympics, Toulon, U21 World Cup etc...

go to Eastern Europe, China, America, Africa. We should be looking to find the next Essien or Drogba before Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal and so on do. It's the only way we will improve the team and when they are old enough we can sell them for big bucks

Everyone at at RFC has their own little job and they are quite happy to get on with it and pick up their nice salary at the end of the month

They dont really need to bust a gut they are competing in the Scottish league and they know all the fans will turn up so they think what the problem

Dont know what i've said wrong here if anything? Just getting used to it. No idea about this kind of stuff.

No worries mate. Sounds like this sometimes. ;)

I've seen a lot of people on the forum saying basically what you just said.

When you have little money to spend you don't go chasing players from the Premiership and Championship!

Lafferty, Mhiller and McCulloch are three prime examples.

If there was a proper scouting network within the club then we'd of been signing better players for the same amount of money from different European countries.

Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea, Spurs, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Ajax, PSV, Benfica and Atletico Madrid all have representitives at the Olympics. I bet we don't have anyone there and it's games like this where you can find some very good players who play for lower clubs in lower leagues and who are available within our budget and wage structure.

There are players in the Austrian, Belgian, Norwegian, Romanian leagues etc who are a lot better than the rubbish we have and would not cost as much.
