these are total generalisations but anyway.

age

players under 21, i reckon unless they are like rooney you wouldn't go above 250k

between 21-25, maybe 1m less than 26-30

over 30, unlikely to get more than 1.5m

ability

split between proven and potential. proven gets you 1-2m, potential 250-1.2m

goals

for every unit of 10 goals scored, add 250,000.

international caps

if a player can do it at this level, you'd maybe add another 500-1m, depending on age and amount of caps.

interest

scottish clubs, add 200k per club. english championship, add 750k per club, epl 1m.

probably why hibs think their players are worth so much. the same goes for players in english leagues.

contract length

add 1m for every year left down to 1 year, when you could take away 500k in january, and get him for free in the summer.

by this reckoning, you'd expect to pay no more than 200k for gow (maybe a bit more if you were desperate), 1.5m for hartley except hearts want rid of him so take away 500k, mcculloch 1.5 to 2m, brown/thomson for 3.75m each, like this
