Moses, second row, second from right.

I cannot find the thread now that we mentioned this in before, but it had links and everything, about the situation of Moses McNeils grave, apparently it isn't kept up to scratch and clean at all, and Rangers FC haven't done anything about it either, which is a shame really, especially as his death at the time, so i read, went by fairly unnoticed.

A good few of us mentioned going to do something about that, and cleaning up the grave of one of our founders sometime, thought i'd make a thread to see again who was interested, and to keep the idea fresh in peoples minds.

And of course pay respects to one of the men that made the club we all love :):21:

INFORMATION WE HAVE SO FAR:

Full name: Moses McLay McNeil

Birthdate: October 29 1855

Burial Place: Rosneath, (click name for map) St Modan’s Churchyard.

Date of Death: April 9 1938

Parents: John McNeil and Jean McNeil (maiden name "Bain")

Jean Bain was from Downpatrick in County Down and when she moved to Scotland in search of work she married John

McNeil, a gardener in Comrie, Perthshire.

Now i found a "Jean McNeil" in the Rosneath Graveyard here:

http://members.madasafish.com/~fairenough/page613.html

(Click here for image of where A Jean Mcneil was layed to rest)

But as to whether its the same one or not i'm not sure, AND its at a different graveyard then he was buried, but still a family link

Also his grave isn't marked, but his sisters were buried in the same graveyard, so we'll be looking for more female 'McNeils' in the same place.

Sisters: Elizabeth and Isabella (Lived with them in a cottage in Clynder)

(tu) Nice one guys, added you to the interested list.

Of course things like dates, times, and even asking if we are allowed to actually do it will have to be done.

There will be a bit of research into it thats for sure, even maybe a visit first off before the cleaning up to see what needs doing :)

I think the member here "mosesmcneil" had quite a bit of information on it (tu) i'll pm him for more about it, im sure he'd be interested!

Here is one of the graveyards in rosneath, there are mcniels, but not any moses'

Although now i think about it, the above links i put up did say it was unmarked, but like i said i think the member on here 'mosesmcniel' said he knew, or had information as to what grave it was. :)

Nice one, this grave deserves a lot more respect than the way it has been left to rot.

(tu) It really does, RFC should be cleaning it up and laying flowers/something as respect every year really.

Maybe that could be talked about in the future too.

I'm amazed that they don't, so disrespectful it's unreal!

did i not read last year that rangers stated they would be attempting to trace the whereabouts of the grave and put it in order? funny feeling it was mentioned by Sandy Jardine.

Oh really?

It'd be cool to see any information on that, blows us out of the water if so

Unless we get there first

Even if the grave is unmarked there should be a recordbook of all burial plots (by number and map) either at the cemetery or town hall. I was able to look up my grandparents grave last time I was home in Largs. Nice Idea by the way. :)

If that's the case, and the club were talking about it last year, I reckon they have lost interest. They'd have done it by now, you'd think.

I foretell an unseemly struggle between a long haired, studenty photographer type and a tim worky, easily identifiable by his sluggish movement and cooncil uniform.

McBoyd, with his trowel and hard bristled cleaning brush, ought to have the edge over timothy, armed as he is only with a rolled up copy of the celtic view.

Thanks for sorting this out McBoyd.

It is a great idea and I hope that we can get behind it as a site in full force. Let me know if you need any hardware.

(tu) I hope we can do it too, i was going to bring my D200 as well, get some pictures and im sure local papers, even rangers fc might be interested in what we are doing at some point.

Some more:

A tiny death notice in a Glasgow newspaper — the smallest in the paper that day — confirmed his burial at Rosneath, as do the official burial records. His sisters were also buried there, but there is no marker of Moses final resting place in the graveyard.

More information regarding date of passing and age.

This would be great!

Could someone please give me his full name? (First name, Middle name, and Last name)

And also could I get his date of birth?

I found a website which may help.

Link up the site (tu)

EDIT: Its "Moses McLay McNeil" and October 29, 1855
