Boab
KRIS BOYD today told Walter Smith he can improve on his record at Parkhead in Sunday's showdown with Celtic. The Rangers' striker has scored only once in three years against the Hoops - in a meaningless 2-0 victory at Ibrox at the end of the 2006/07 season. However, Scotland's top scorer, who has banged in 23 goals this season, is confident he can net against the Hoops on their own turf and send his side to the top of the SPL. Boyd admitted: "It's true that I've not had much joy at Parkhead over the years. In fact, the only time I have scored there was when I got a couple against the Faroe Islands with Scotland and that was a few years ago. "So there is no doubt I want to be involved in the game this weekend, but it is up to the manager and he will decide that. As a footballer you want to play on the biggest stage possible and it doesn't get bigger than the Old Firm game. "I started the match at Ibrox in December which gave me a taste of it again, but I will be keeping my fingers crossed I can be involved on Sunday and help the team." The 25-year-old hit-man had a gilt-edged chance to put Rangers in front in the last meeting between the two age-old rivals, but hit his shot tamely and goalkeeper Artur Boruc saved. Gordon Strachan's side then went up to the other end of the park in a tense encounter and Scott McDonald scored a wonder goal which ultimately secured them all three points. However, Boyd feels his team can still take heart from the way they played. He said: "I think when you look at the game in December we were perhaps the favourites to take three points with the game being at Ibrox, but it didn't work out like that which was disappointing. "I had a big chance after half-time, but unfortunately it didn't go in. In games like that there is, more often than not, a very thin line between success and failure and I think that game highlighted that. "I should have scored, but there is not a lot you can do when the ball goes up the other end and someone smashes home a great goal. "The most disappointing thing for me was that Celtic maybe only had two real chances on that afternoon. Georgios Samaras had a header after Scott McDonald had scored and that was it. "If I had beaten Boruc I don't think there could have been any way back for them. They were looking tired, but got a massive lift from the goal. But these things happen and we moved on, that's all we can do, but it still hurt a lot at the time." Boyd also feels Rangers can be encouraged by the way they have fought back to within just two points of Celtic since that massive disappointment. And he thinks the famous 4-2 victory they achieved at Parkhead at the start of the season can give them confidence. He added: "When you look back at the start of this year we were seven points behind so we have done well to get back in the race. If we can now go above them this weekend that would be massive, but we know how difficult that will be. "Celtic are strong at home and not many teams go there and take three points. But we did it earlier in the season and we have to be confident of doing that again. "The 4-2 result proves we can go there and win. We don't need to be scared of anything and I think the only thing in our minds will be getting a victory." 9:50am today http://www.eveningtimes.co.uk/misc/print.php?artid=2488539

Leiper
Why does he keep coming out with this shit? It seems players just run to the media whenever they want to play, state they are determined, they will make their mark in a certain game, blah blah blah. As most discussions with Boydy, i'll be sitting on the fence in regards to whether he should start or not, there is a part of me which thinks he will start scoring just as much against the scum as he does against lesser teams. However, he got a chance at Ibrox and pretty much missed the chance for us, which would have won us the game - IMO.
Muff
I'm actually suprised it took this long for Boyd to open his trap - the week running up to the last Old Firm match was embarrassing. Every day Boyd was telling us and Wally that he was the man to gun down celtc.... The further away he is from this match, the better!

papaguy51
you had your chance..you blew it Players only get one chance now? You say that as if he's only had one chance against Celtic. One goal against them in his whole career, none at Parkhead. Says it all for the SPL's top marksman.

McBoyd
http://www.teamtalk.co.za/football/story/0...4913763,00.html Boyd acknowledges his record against Celtic is poor - especially at Parkhead - but he is desperate to put that right this weekend. "It's true that I have not had much joy at Parkhead over the years," he said. "In fact, the only time I have scored there was when I got a couple against Faroe Islands with Scotland and even that was a few years ago. "There is no doubt I want to be involved in the game this weekend. But it's up to the manager - he's the one that will decide that. "I started the match at Ibrox in December, which gave me a taste of it again but I will be keeping my fingers crossed I can be involved on Sunday and help the team." That match at the end of last year saw Celtic run out 1-0 winners after Boyd missed a one-on-one with Artur Boruc. "I had a big chance after half-time but, unfortunately, it didn't go in," Boyd said. "I should have scored but there is not a lot you can do when the ball goes up the other end and someone smashes home a great goal. "If I had beaten Boruc, I don't think there would have been any way back for them. "These things happened and we moved on - that's all you can do - but it still hurt at the time." The result put Celtic seven points clear at the top of the Scottish Premier League but Rangers have since bounced back to cut the deficit to two. Boyd said: "We have done well to get back in the race. "If we can now go above them this weekend, that would be massive, but we know how difficult that will be." Boyd, who was omitted from August's 4-2 win at Parkhead, added: "Celtic are strong at home and not many teams go there and take three points. "But we did it earlier in the season and we have to be confident of doing that again. "We don't need to be scared of anything and I think the only thing in our minds will be getting a victory." (i put goal scoring because everytime i say form, people come back with "his link up play... yadda yadda") I'm far from convinced he's even in his best goal scoring form. Recently he's failed to score against Dundee Utd, St Johnstone, Aberdeen, and...celtic.
simplythebest
If you read what he says closely i don't think hes saying an awful lot wrong, he openly talks about his poor Parkhead/Celtic record and clearly says its Walter Smith's decision whether he plays or not. When hes asked if he wants to play hes obviously going to say yes. Lets just say i've seen worse interviews.
