Uncle Robert says John's attitude had stank and that held him back

John Fleck could have made his breakthrough into the Rangers team six months ago if his attitude had been better, according to his uncle Robert Fleck.

Fleck Snr starred for the Ibrox club in the eighties and has revealed that the 17-year-old was too big-headed at the start of the season to play a significant part in Walter Smith’s plans.

“By all accounts things weren’t right at the start of the season,” the former Norwich City star told the Daily Express.

“His attitude stank, according to what I was told. John thought he was good enough at 16 and 17 to be in the team, which in some ways in a great attitude to have.

“However things weren’t right at the start of the season, then he saw kids come in from abroad and maybe that p***ed him off a bit.

“John then got an injury which kept him out for five or six weeks, and looking back that has actually helped him.

“It gave him time to reflect on his situation. It was the kick up the backside he needed and he has been really fantastic in the past few weeks.

“He is 17 and has no fear. Walter Smith, Ally McCoist and Kenny McDowall held him back and were always clear that when he was good enough he’d play, and it’s brilliant he’s now in and around the team.”

So who's ready to eat humble pie when we were insisting he played at the start of the season then :D

I for one hold my hands up, Walter and Co made the correct decision.

Walter takes a lot of criticisim on this site as he apparently doesn't know how to handle young players....some people need to look at the bigger picture....not a dig at you by the way......

Have to admit i did say recently that i wished he played from the start of the season, but if this was his attitude, then Walter made the correct decision. Can't have a boy of that age thinking he is too big for his boots, no matter how much talent he has.

So nobody noticed the 'His attitude stank, according to what I was told.' part ?

Another article, a couple of weeks ago, he said he had no contact with his nephew. Looks like the customary pre old firm nonsense.

I remember reading he said he hadnt spoke to him for ages, media spin.....

Load of pish, you can almost hear the beads rattling off the keyboard, clearly an attempt to unsettle a 17yr old, well they are used to abusing children.

If he was good enough to be thrown on in desperation at Aberdeen last season he should have started this season. It is the management teams job to make sure he develops mentally as well as physically and technically.

As an aside the filth are absolutely shitting themselves concerning fleck, especially him playing well on Sunday.

They are running him into the ground, saying we don’t own him, slagging off his ability……what a day this would e for the young guy to produce the gods……

If he produced the Gods I would be livin in fear lol

It would seem that, all those actually in the game who stated Walter and McCoist were doing a good job in bringing them through properly were correct, and, some fans were not. Thats taken me by surprise :pipe:

Aye his uncle would be trying to unsettle him before a big game......
