bluenose4life
I think the SPL and inturn us, are being screwed when it comes to football. Now we all know that the English game is worth more but how much more? Setanta have a new contract covering the 2011/12 through 2014/15 seasons in the SPL (paying more than before). Setanta paid £125m for to cover the 60 games for 4 years (240 games) Sky have 2011/12 to 2013/14 seasons Sky have paid £1.782bn for 3 years (345 games) Setanta have 2011/12 to 2013/14 seasons Setanta have paid £159m for 3 years (69 games) This adds up at £5.16m per GAME sky EPL £2.13m per GAME setanta EPL £520k per GAME setanta SPL EU law stated that no one providor could hold EPL rights (6 packages) and that it would have to be shared between 2 or more. Sky bid and won A, B, C, E and F with Setanta D. Why cant the same be for the SPL? To think how much money we could have, compared to what we get. I think its about time we had our packages split up so that setanta cant have a monopoly over our games and give sky some of them, as the money they give is much more than what setanta give us! No wonder they have teams down there willing to put £100m in for one player when up here we have a basic limit of around £3m
FlippinEck
If sky gave us just a small managable proportion of that money, to all of our teams, not only would it make our league better, it would make it better viewing for them to show. Bazza
This adds up at £5.16m per GAME sky EPL £2.13m per GAME setanta EPL £520k per GAME setanta SPL Considering they have ten times the population down south, then the figures actually add up pretty acurately. I would love to see us with a much bigger revenue from TV rights but we just don't have the pull. We have one real salable package which is the OF away games. Apart from that there is very little to no intrest in our game.
Jimfanciesthedude
did sky not ditch us because our game was fucking rank rotten we should be glad that setanta paid MORE for the new SPL package apart from old firm games no one else in england apart from rangers or celtic fans actually give a shit about the SPL

Thats exactly it mate. I would also say they have a higher % of folk who follow football teams but don't go to games aswell. People who want to whank themselves over Ronaldo etc but don't bother to actually go and watch a local team.
McBoyd
apart from old firm games no one else in england apart from rangers or celtic fans actually give a shit about the SPL Aye but up until recently not alot of people cared about English Division 1 and 2 games either (before it became Championship and that..) All i remember down here on tv alot every weekend was one of the big 4 of the EPL, and the odd smaller game. If they take the risk, give the SPL the same money, the league will get better and create more interest.
RobertN
spot on it is all bullshit english media hype i could not care less about any english league even the premiership (the name is a prime example) was a minor league 10 years ago but because people pay money to sky for it it snowballs more money better players more hype more money and so on setanta are mickey mouse compared to sky and our taking our league backwards
skins
Was it not the SPL that told Sky to get to fuck?
smitzer007
Was it not the SPL that told Sky to get to fuck? That's pretty much what I thought. Sky offered a new deal and the newly formed SPL wanted 3 or 4 times what they offered so told them to do one and tried to negotiate their own deal. Now given that they couldn't organise a blow job in a brothel everything went tits up from there.
1690 Posts
If you live in Scotland stop buying Sky, you subsidise their policy. If every Scottish household ditched them they'd soon take notice.
