Tontospal
Has done a fantastic job at Swansea and has them playing attractive attacking football. He also impresses me whenever I've seen him on TV, whether being interviewed or analysing a game. Whilst it is always a bigger risk employing a foreign manager, as was seen with PLG, Martinez has spent a decade or so in the British game (including a spell at Motherwell, IIRC) and is familiar with 'our' football culture. Looking around at managers in the game today, I really think he is a good option and could make a great Rangers manager. Take today's game for example. I'd love to see a manager at Ibrox play across the whole pitch with players virtually standing on opposite touchlines when attacking and still being in play and available should the ball be switched from one wing to the other. I'm confident he has a big future in the game and won't be at Swansea for long so it would be a good time to get him in at the end of the season, regardless of how this season pans out. Thoughts? Muff
I remember mentioning him a few months ago in one of the Wally Smith replacement threads. I'd have him in a heart beat, I think he's a terrific manager! I don't think it will be long before he finds himself in the Premiership - he was linked with the assistant manager's job at Manchester United and has been linked with the Blackburn and Portsmouth job. papaguy51
Yep, I think it's been mooted by a few on this board since his brilliant first full season in the job. Plays the right way, great eye for talent AND a bargain. I'd have him here in the blink of an eye.

papaguy51
I think it's a realistic shout as well. Martinez loves European football, he's a massive student of the game abroad. He knows fine well that he wouldn't get European football (at the highest level) with Blackburn or Portsmouth.

Muff
He'd be treated like PLG was treated. I don't think he would because he'd go about his buisness in a totally different way. He also knows the Scottish and British game.

Was the problem with PLG not that, he never bothered watching any SPL games before he arrived , except on DVD PLG bought players who did not suit the SPL

I agree with that, he also doesnt have the arrogant persona Le Guen has/had First foreign manager mooted on the board I would actually agree with hiring, in fact, probably the best choice out of all mentioned
papaguy51
What if Martinez saw what Paul Le Guen saw with Ferguson, in as much as the captain is/was on a downward spiral? Would fans still take to him if he came in and removed Ferguson from the club?

I definitely would now But with PLG results werent good, the signings were poor, and he expected us to trust him in getting rid of Fergie

Would fans still take to him if he came in and removed Ferguson from the club? he expected us to trust him in getting rid of Fergie I know, i mean imagine trying to get rid of a player who was going behind your back in the dressing room and not following your instructions on the park. That's just fucking mental. But save this from going into PLG debate #249043438907. I'd take Martinez in a heartbeat. He lives and breathes the game and knows how to mix Continental flair with British workman effort, add in a fantastic discipline for man management and an eye for a transfer and you have a very interesting young manager indeed. Sadly, i think he'll be out of our range by the time Walter Smith leaves, already he's being linked with various La Liga jobs.

ShootSpeedKillLight
I think a lot of people are running out of patience with Ferguson, and as such there'd be a lot less resistance than previously.

Would fans still take to him if he came in and removed Ferguson from the club? Forget about the fans, mate. What about the media? Remember the articles his best mate Iain King ran with after the stories of a dispute broke? The way they reported it would have you think that Le Guen was actually planning to kill Ferguson. Ferguson is personal friends with a lot of Scottish journo's. Any manager who wants to sell him, domestic or foreign, is going to have to endure a lot of flack.
