the goal machine
WISE—CRACKING Ally McCoist has been grinning his way through life ever since he first learned to done a smile. The original cheeky chappie, he’s knows as the Golden Balls of Scottish football. Stevie Naismith has revealed, however, there’s a dark side to the Ibrox joker. It’s a side the public never sees — a side the Gers players live in fear of. Ibrok kid Naismith insists that Walter Smith’s trusted No2 has a quickfire temper that often explodes on matchdays. And when it does, the laughter STOPS. McCoist will once again call the shots as Rangers face minnows Forfar in the Scottish Cup tonight. And Naisy is praying for the win that will help keep Coisty happy. He said: “Believe me, if things are not going well then Coisty does have a temper. He’s not Mr Nice Guy all of the time. “Every coach at every team has that other side to them if the players are not doing well. “Coisty definitely has it in him — don’t ever let him kid you otherwise. “It’s really not much different with him in charge because Coisty usually does a lot of the talking around the changing room during the week anyway. “He is the gaffer in the Cup so it’s a wee bit different, but not too much. “He was boasting in fact the other week he has never been beaten as a Cup boss. “He won’t let you forget that! We know every game for Rangers is massive and we need to win at Forfar. “With the games we have coming up the boys will want to prove they are worthy of a place.” McCoist will send out a shadow Gers side as the Cup holders clash with Dick Campbell’s Third Division strugglers tonight. Naismith, 23, who is fighting his way back after nine months out, will be handed a start in midfield alongside Maurice Edu and Lee McCulloch. Station Park is a far cry from Celtic Park, but Naisy knows Gers can’t afford to slip up. He added: “Last Sunday it was Celtic and now we have Forfar. “But it’s been like that for a couple of weeks. “We had AC Milan and then we were going to play Forfar but it was called off. This time it’s the other side of the coin. “That’s the Scottish Cup for you, the draw can take you anywhere. “It can be difficult to be motivated, but if the gaffer has changed his team then the players who come in are going to want to show him they should be playing every week. “They will want to go out and give a good performance.” Just three days after Sunday’s woeful bore draw at Parkhead, Naismith wants to help Gers return to winning ways after the Old Firm shocker. Advertisement Naismith said: “I think there’s no doubt the big names who were here in the past aren’t here as much now. “But you still have Pedro Mendes, and he has been brilliant since he arrived in Scotland. “Since I have been at Rangers it’s only the last two Old Firm games that have not been great. “But they can’t all be entertaining and great matches. “If Celtic had won their lead would have been five points and if we had won we would have overtaken them and gone one point ahead. “There was a lot riding on it and we are now at the tail end of the season where winning counts. “I’m sure the next couple of Old Firm games will be much better. “If you look back on my first Old Firm game we won 3-0 at Ibrox and this season when we won 4-2 at Parkhead, they were really entertaining games. “They are still special games and I haven’t experienced anything like it in my career. It’s a great atmosphere, amazing to be involved in. “During the game you don’t even notice it’s a bad game because you are concentrating on what your team is doing.” Naisy came off the bench against Celtic, but he will start at Station Park tonight. The former Killie star reckons he’s edging back to his best following a lengthy injury lay-off. He said: “It’s always disappointing when you don’t make the team, but I have just got to bide my time. “Some weeks you feel like you have never been away and other days you go out there and things don’t go for you in training. “I’m still finding my feet back in the squad after my injury and hopefully before long I can get a wee run in the team. I feel ready now. “Sometimes my feet don’t feel ready out on the training pitch, but that will come with time. “I’m been doing extra stuff after training to get back my sharpness but there’s no substitute for games.” http://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/scotsol/ho...icle2246994.ece

nvager
Naismith, Edu, Mcculloch and ? in midfield? I hope big Lee is not a def mid again. Sounds like an interesting team selection. Lafferty is fit so maybe him and Boyd up front?
