  1. A reward winning understatement indeed....

Got hammered at home by an unholy trinity, the defense was in an utter disarray, and yet wondering whether or not,our best defender and arguably one of our best players(if not the best player)was sorely missed!

  2. I know a lot of people say Cueller was the better player and fair do's.. but that performance tonight seals the deal for me, Bougherra is so much more valuable than Cueller in my eyes and just nips it as the better of the two. Take a bow son, tonight was brilliant.

    (tu)

Nothing much to add to that, you nailed it!

  3. (tu) as soon as the game finished i wasn't really listening to the commentators was too buzzing to listen to them  did bougherra get man of the match.????

    Yes,he did!

MADJID BOUGHERRA has praised his teammates after tonight's goalless draw at Old Trafford.

The Algerian defender was named man-of-the-match by UEFA on a proud night for the club but admits that any player in a Light Blue jersey could have been given the award.

Madjid Bougherra against Manchester UtdHe said: "It's great to get a point at Old Trafford. Last year we did well away from home and we continued that tonight.

"I thought as a team we defended very well and this result can give us a lot of confidence in the Champions League.

"The gaffer did very well I think because he played with five at the back and this worked very well.

"We managed to keep it tight and Kirk (Broadfoot) was very good.

"He was asked to play at left-back and I thought he was excellent.

"But this was a team performance and to play against a team like Manchester United away from home and not concede is a very good thing for the club.

"Not many teams come to Old Trafford and manage this so we are very pleased, it was a great night."

  4. France would have torched the shit out of the place had it not been for public opinion back home. :BELM:

After eight years of fighting and strings of bloody massacres on both sides(more than 2 million casualties in total)!

    Don't think so!

The froggies gave it their best shot...they just couldn't deal with what they have been faced with, period!

The Algerian revolution is a text book sample as far as popular resistance movements are concerned. Many aspects of it are taught to these days in a lot of counter-insurgency military schools. The "battle of Algiers" epithet should ring a bell!

  5. Smith cool over Bougherra speculation

    (UKPA) –

Rangers manager Walter Smith has refused to read too much into reports linking Madjid Bougherra with a move to Barcelona after claiming he is now used to the constant speculation surrounding the defender.

Bougherra has apparently been targeted by the Catalan giants - as well as Sevilla - after impressing scouts while on international duty with Algeria at the African Nations Cup.

Smith says he has no idea whether the centre-half is on the La Liga clubs' radar or not, and said: "There seems to have been speculation surrounding him since he came here more or less. We had it last summer and in other transfer windows and he remains here. Hopefully that will be the case next year as well."

He added: "From any player's point of view it would be nice to be linked with Barcelona and top Spanish teams. However accurate or inaccurate that is, I don't know.

"But the only thing that concerns us is that he stays here and plays his football and he has been doing that very well for us.

"He has actually missed quite a number of games this season through injury and then being away at the African Nations Cup.

"It's good to have him back and hopefully he can stay injury-free and play for us in the manner in which he has done. He has been excellent since he came to us."

Smith last week warned that the club's off-field problems "will only get worse" - but stressed that does not automatically mean they will lose players such as Bougherra this summer.

"Someone has got to come in for the players," he pointed out. "People keep saying that someone is going here, there and everywhere. But you have to wait for someone to come in for them before you can have any thoughts about them going anywhere else.

"No-one can go anywhere between now and the summer and our sole focus has to be on what we have at the moment. My main focus is just to make sure we try to keep everyone on the right track and we have had no problem with that with Madjid in the past."

  6. The very serious 'futbal mercado' is quite clearly a load of shite.

I beg to differ.....usually the site in question has a good inside knowledge about what is cooked behind the scene in spanish football.I wouldn't really write it off because of this slight mix up between the Gers and the tims!

    doh

100% wrong. Completely wrong. And insulting. = 'slight mix up'

Oh yes,you got a point there looking at it with our own local standards!

But from a spaniard perspective.....there isn't much between the two!

  8. Boughy has all the required credentials to play for the biggest clubs out there. This is a fact.

I don't know what to think about this last piece of news, but it seems that it's getting momentum amongst international media.

The very serious "futbol mercado" a site specialised primarly in spanish football, published an article regarding this matter. As far as i am concerned,i would say there is a definate interest shown towards Bougherra by the Barca.

Now,the 64000$ question would be...whether this keen interest will turn into a firm bid at a later stage!

    Wait and see!

  9. correct me if i'm wrong, but did Bougherra not play RB for Algeria, or was it right of a back three. I only seen the 2nd half of the semi final?

He should be playing right back for us at the monent. If you think about it, he's our best right back by a country mile!

Definately...right of a back three in the world cup qualification phases and a CB in this CAN tournament.

Have seen most of Algeria's games, booghy as expected was rock solid.

  10. Awful refereering by that "coffi coja" fellow....

Algeria has been beaten singlehandedly by a notoriously dubious referee(who's retiring after this match by the way) .

Egypt has a lenghty background as far as having favours granted to it by the african refereeing body!

Pity,it was a very good game from the outset, before the Algerian defender been sent off and numerous bad judging decisions taken place.

On the face of it,Algeria would never have been beaten in normal playing conditions.

Boughy's Algeria finished the game down to 8 men.

On a positive note, his long due return home is on the cards for the next few days.
