  1. It might be only Thursday but did you know Celtic had already won this weekend's Old Firm clash? Yep. Rangers simply can't match up to Brendan Rodgers' side and they'll be lucky to get away with their dignity intact. Well, if you listen to any of the "experts" in the Scottish media anyway. All that's been said this week is how Rangers should use this first Old Firm encounter in the league since April 2012 to gauge where they are against the champions. Despite everything this is a David & Goliath-type encounter. It's like when one of the wee teams from countries with populations smaller than a mid-sized Scottish town get drawn against one of the big names of European football in the Champions League or the Europa League. 2. Following the disappointing League Cup defeat to St. Johnstone, normal service was resumed in the league at the weekend. A comprehensive 4-0 win at Cappielow saw Mark Warburton’s side extend their 100% league record at the expense of Morton. Martyn Waghorn scored an excellent hat-trick to take his tally to 14 goals in 13 games this season, while James Tavernier also continued his rich vein of form with his eighth goal so far from right-back. Despite the scoreline, there continues to be questions over the central-defensive pairing of Rob Kiernan and Danny Wilson. Kiernan looks more than comfortable dealing with aerial balls, however both the former Wigan man and Wilson both look vulnerable when they have to turn back and chase down a ball over the top. This isn’t reason enough to make a change and drop either one yet though. READ MORE: http://www.shoot.co.uk/rangers-centre-backs-still-need-more-protection/
  3. What a difference a year can make in football. From the shambles of last year’s Premiership play-offs, to being 90 minutes away from a return to European football, Mark Warburton has been a revelation in Scottish football. 4. I’m not one for using this blog as a soapbox to rant and rave about things, but after the shambles that was the Scottish Cup fifth round replays, I have to ask some serious question of those charged with running the game at a continental and national level. 5. As some of you maybe noticed I've been writing about Rangers for the last year for Shoot. I've now been able to launch a regular column for them on MLS. The first few will be introducing the league and clubs to those who may not know much about the American game. There'll be regular updates and weekly reviews. Anyway here's the first one. Hope I can win some people over to MLS. It's nowhere near as bad as many make out. Cheers. We pretty much all agree that football is the biggest sport in the world, right? There are more countries recognised by FIFA than there are by the United Nations (209 vs. 206 just in case you were wondering) and more people play football globally than any other sport, but there’s one major nation that has never quite taken to the beautiful game. America. But that’s changing. Just like in it’s 1970s heyday, football is taking off and attracting some of the biggest names in the game to try convert the American public from their hand-based version of football. Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard and Ashley Cole join David Villa, Andrea Pirlo and Sebastian Giovinco as some of the major European stars turning out each week in Major League Soccer; the top division in the American and Canadian game. 6. This time 12 months ago, almost to the day, I was sitting down to put together my first piece for Shoot on all things Rangers. The club had just announced five new loan signings from Newcastle United, the boardroom was in turmoil following Dave King’s EGM requisition a few weeks earlier, and the football on display was fairly brutal. It wasn’t a great time for any fan of the club. Read more: http://www.shoot.co.uk/what-a-difference-12-months-has-made-for-rangers/
  7. Over the last few weeks, weve really started to get a true idea of what Mark Warburton and his team are all about. After running roughshod over the opposition in the opening weeks of the season, sides have caught on and are setting up to try frustrate the light blues. Read more: http://bit.ly/1S9awyP
