Get McCulloch back in defence, we need to strengthen it. The sad fact is our best defender is naturally a striker. That's a complete joke. Wallace is simple enough, fantastic player and the only player who will still be here (hopefully) once we're back in the SPL. Would love it if he was our left back for years. Good at defending, good at going forward and linking up with the attackers. The greek boy, shocking defender, best option we have at right back sadly. Decent at going forward. We need to sort that out come the summer. Not bad but I would put Aird in for shiels

The midfield. It's been a huge problem recently since we lost McLeod to injury, he's back in training now apparently so hopefully he'll be back on the field soon. Get Black dropped. Him and Hutton are too similar and can't play together and just keep cancelling each other out. Have Hutton as our holding midfielder, mopping up the balls getting played through the middle. McLeod is our midfield play maker, can get forward, can defend and can get the ball sprayed out left right and centre.

Now IMO, the most important part of our play. Attacking. Temps, Shiels and McKay, the three most attacking midfielders we have. Rather than have them having set sides to attack from, mix it up a little. Cause the opposition all sorts of headaches. Have one playing through the middle for a bit then swap them around, swap them sides. Bring the defenders out of position. Create the space for each other to exploit. All three are fast with their feet and have decent level of skill. They would compliment each other perfectly and with Argy and Wallace bombing forward to help them aswell it just opens up plenty of space to exploit.

Litte, IMO is the best forward at the club just now. Although he's nothing more than decent at best. But he can head the ball, run with the ball and has good strength to hold of challenges. Have him getting in the position for Temps, Shiels and McKay to exploit. Maybe Hemmings could fill this void aswell, but I've yet to see him get a chance for us, so that window is still open.

IMO, this is how we should line up for the rest of the season, if we need to that formation can easily change into a 442, with Sheils going up top and McKay and Temps going down the wings.

We are still very short in quality, but that team would walk it back into the SPL. If we must stick with McCoist, there really is only a few positions need strengthened, a right back, a centre back and right winger. No need for overpayed journeymen strikers. IMO, we'd play our best football this way. The constant pace and movement of the forwards will draw the space we need to hit them.

  2. the entire Andy Goram vs. Leeds game. i've never seen a display like that. i remember laughing about 25 minutes into the game - he was just unbeatable (i accept they got a late deflected goal, but when it mattered in the game, he was unbeatable)

one great save fae cantona at the front post.....superb for a wee fat goalie lol
  3. It seems that after almost every game we have played this season, the biggest gripe from our fans is our defence, or more importantly, the lack of it.

It is very embarrassing when we have coaches of 4th division teams who mentally rub their hands in glee every time their team gets a set piece against the runaway league leaders, whether it is a corner kick or a free kick within 25 yards of our goal, because the chances of them putting the ball in the net have a reasonable chance of succeding.

There are a myriad of explanations for this with virtually every supporter coming up with their own theory of where the cause(s) lie; from "We deploy zonal marking instead of man to man marking"... "Our defenders are shite"..."They cannae understand each other" etc.

Now it's debatable what the reason(s) are for this, but what is not debatable is that for a team of professionals up against teams of part-timers who work full time as plumbers, bank clerks and dustbin men, we are shite.

We need to get somebody like Richard Gough or Davie Weir (or both) back in as defensive coaches and get this sorted out for next season. Not only could they coach our defenders, they could also possibly assist Ally by scouting any potential young talent for those positions. Both of these players had extensive experience playing at both central defence and right back positions, so they know exactly what to look for.

It's not "jobs for the boys" because they will certainly earn their money AND be beneficial to our club.A good keeper, strong rearguard and central midfielder is the cornerstone to a successful team and that's not something we have at this moment in time.

Most will not be familiar with the name of Tony Popovic, or the team knows as Western Sydney Wanderers who play in the Australian A-League,but their example shows what good coaching can achieve with a bit of work and knowledge of that particular skill.

WSW only began life as a club in 2012 and in fact didn't even have a name or colours or a "team" by May 2012.The coach was chosen as Tony Popovic, an Australian centre half who played in the J-League for four seasons with Sanfrecce Hiroshima and then five seasons with Crystal Palace.

Popovic's first quest was to sign players who would give him a team with a strong spine, so in came the 37 yr old keeper Ante Covic, defenders Adam D'Apuzzo, Iocopo La Rocca, and central defenders Michael Beauchamp and Nikolai Topor-Stanley, all 6ft + no nonsense defenders.

He realised that to play the way he wanted his team to play,it would need a midfielder who would be comfortable on the ball and whos passing was the key to quickly change defence to attack,so in came his 33 yr old lynchpin, Shinji Ono. This transfer activity was between July-September 2012.After a dismal 6 games beginning,WSW now sit proudly at the top of the A-League after 23 games played.

The big key to this has been the form of their 2 C/B's, Beauchamp and Topor-Stanley.Now Topor-Stanley used to make Ross Perry look like Franz Beckenbauer, but Popovic seen something in him and with work from the gaffer and his coaching staff,he has turned Topor-Stanley into a player who could win the A-League player of the year award.

The amazing statistic from all of this is that after their initial 6 game struggles they now have only 18 goals against their name, with not one goal being scored against them from a set piece.

This being in a league where players such as Del Piero, Heskey, Bridges,Thomson, Smeltz etc ply their trade.

I was fortunate to bump into Tony Popovic a few weeks back and I asked him about the turn around in the WSW defending in general and Topor-Stanley's in particular. His answer was that the defensive coaches work very hard at defensive aspects on the training ground where EVERY player now knows their job and who to pick up at set pieces is the 'secret'. They do it simply and effectively to clear their lines, especially Topor-Stanley acts as a "free player"

Just hard work and coaches who played as defenders and pass on their knowledge is his "secret"

Makes a good arguement for getting Gough &/or Weir back if they would do it.

Good shout mate but don't think weir would comeback from England and leave family again
  4. How good would it have been to hear darryl king on ssb .When the verdict came out as he is the only person who would challenged the panel and callers from the dark side.Hope he finds his way back soon

  5. No surprise that delacunt and co are still trying to twist things on the verdict today. Well done to the bears getting through and sticking it to these rhats.
