  1. THE former Ibrox star is clinging onto his job as bus tycoons the Easdale brothers lead calls for him to be sacked in wake of Petrofac Cup disaster.

Rangers manager Ally McCoist takes his seat at the clubs annual general meeting

ALLY McCOIST was clinging to his job as Rangers manager last night despite losing the support of a faction of the club’s board following his Petrofac Cup calamity in Alloa.

It’s believed the bill to terminate his rolling one-year contract, as well as those of his assistants, would be nearly £1.5m.

McCoist is aware knives are being sharpened in the boardroom with brothers Sandy and James Easdale leading calls for his removal from the hotseat.

Sources close to the bus tycoons say they feel, after three-and-a-half years in charge, that McCoist’s time is all but up.

But, with the club back on the brink of financial crisis and in need of emergency loans just to continue trading into the New Year, there is not enough cash in the club’s account to cover the cost of the severance packages for McCoist and his backroom team.

It includes assistant boss Kenny McDowall, first-team coach Ian Durrant and goalkeeper coach Jim Stewart.

Ironically, not one member of the PLC board – comprised of executive chairman David Somers, James Easdale, Norman Crighton and Derek Llambias – attended Wednesday night’s 3-2 cup collapse against Alloa.

Sandy Easdale was at Recreation Park in his capacity as chairman of the football board.

And he witnessed the spectacular second-half capitulation as Barry Smith’s part-timers came back from 2-0 down to clinch a place in the Final with three goals in a devastating 18-minute blitz.

Now he is leading the revolt against McCoist, even though the board are powerless to act.

While the Easdale’s want the Ibrox legend out, there is no indication that powerbroker Mike Ashley – whose short-term loans are being drip fed into the dwindling Rangers account – will make a move.

Meanwhile, former Newcastle and England defender Steve Howey feels McCoist’s job is safe.

He said: “I’d be very surprised if Ally is sacked. Mike Ashley just doesn’t do knee-jerk dismissals.

“Look at Alan Pardew at Newcastle. The fans wanted him out but Ashley stuck by him and it’s proved to be the right decision as he has turned things round.

  2. Clarets enquire after Rangers starlet

    12:47 - Burnley

Burnley have enquired about Rangers' talented 20-year-old midfielder Lewis MacLeod, amid speculation he could be sold in January.

Clarets officials have contacted the Glasgow club about MacLeod - who was recently linked with Aston Villa as scouts from English clubs flock to Ibrox to evaluate his potential.

Scotland boss Gordon Strachan handed the Rangers starlet his first senior international call-up this month and speculation is rife that Rangers could cash in on their greatest asset in the January transfer window.

The Ibrox club's finances are still shrouded in uncertainty, despite Newcastle owner Mike Ashley's injection of £2million in an emergency loan a month ago.

Newcastle United could emerge as contenders for MacLeod's signature in the next few weeks with many Rangers supporters expecting to see a number of players move between the clubs in the future.- See more at: http://www.sportinastorm.com/Premier-League/Burnley/Clarets-enquire-after-Rangers-starlet/X1Y15Z1844845#sthash.TeMiPqUP.dpuf

  3. A transfer tribunal date for Charlie Telfer's move to Dundee United has been set for Tuesday, December 9.

United and Rangers remain in dispute over the fee due for the 19-year-old midfielder following his summer move to Tannadice.

Under SPFL rules clubs can receive cash for developing and training players under 23 who move as free agents.

Rangers argue they are entitled to six years cash for the player between the age of 12 to 18 while United believe the Scottish Championship side should only receive money to cover two years since liquidation in 2012.

With both clubs unable to decide on a fee for the player the matter will now be heard by an independent panel.

Earlier this month, United boss Jackie McNamara told STV he was keen to see the matter resolved as quickly as possible.

Under SPFL regulation F9: "In the event of the two clubs concerned not reaching agreement on the amount of any compensation payable, the new club must, on the date of registration or, if later, on the date of any first offer of compensation, pay to the player's former club at least 50% of the highest amount offered or, as the case may be, offered, plus VAT at the standard rate.

"All offers of compensation shall be in writing and shall be copied to the secretary by recorded delivery post when they are sent to the player’s former club.

"In the event that the amount of compensation ordered to be paid by a compensation tribunal is less than the amount previously paid in terms of this Rule F9 or if no compensation is ordered to be so paid then the club which has received such payment shall be liable to forthwith repay as a debt the amount overpaid or, where no payment is so ordered to be paid, the amount paid, to the club which made such payment."

Under rule F11 any compensation must be paid "within 28 days of the date of publication of a compensation tribunal determination".

Whyte’s spokesman has confirmed to Sky Sports News HQ that Whyte has ‘no intention of avoiding his responsibilities’ and intends to help police with its inquiries.

Gary Withey, David Whitehouse, Paul Clark and David Grier were all charged over an alleged fraudulent scheme involving the club three-and-a-half years ago.

Withey is also charged with an alleged breach of the Companies Act 2006.

Whitehouse, Clark and Grier are also charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice.

The four men made no plea or declaration at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday and were granted bail ahead of a future hearing.

  5. Aston Villa are on the trail of 20-year-old Rangers starlet Lewis MacLeod and saw him impress against Alloa Athletic on Saturday. Villa in early for Ibrox whizzkid Villa sent a scout to Glasgow for the Scottish Championship match to witness MacLeod's talent after he broke into Ally McCoist's side and kept a regular place this season. MacLeod did not disappoint - creating Rangers' goal in a 1-1 draw which keeps them in the hunt for a third successive automatic promotion. The midfielder gained his first call-up to the full Scotland squad for the qualifier against Ireland and Tuesday's friendly clash with England but was released by Gordon Strachan to play for his club on Saturday. He could feature on the bench against Roy Hodgson's men at Celtic Park with scouts all over England soon to be fully aware of his ability.

  6. RANGERS Supporters' Erskine Appeal are donating £200 from their fundraising efforts to replace the money stolen from Redz chippy in Sunderland.

Poppy-tin-thief-1.png The poppy tin thief is caught on CCTV

BIG-HEARTED Rangers fanshave stepped in to replace Poppy Appeal cash stolen from a chip shop counter by a hooded scumbag.

The shocking theft of a Royal British Legion collection tin happened south of the border but the story appeared online.

Legion fund-raisers were furious at the sneak theft from Redz chippy in Sunderland two days before Remembrance Sunday.

Now the Rangers Supporters’ Erskine Appeal are donating £200 from their fund-raising efforts to replace the stolen cash.

Secretary Tom Clark said: “For someone to steal a Poppy Appeal tin just seemed to be really bad news, and we wanted to do something to help.”

The RSEA was set up by Rangers fans to raise money for Erskine Veterans’ Home near Glasgow.

Tom said: “We initially wanted to raise £1000 to take veterans along to a football match, but we ended up raising £600,000 – and we’d like to send some money down to Sunderland.

“We’ve made donations to a number of groups, and we’d like to send a cheque for £200 to the Sunderland branch of the Royal British Legion to replace the money that was stolen.”

Tom read about the shocking theft when a friend posted a link to the story on Facebook.

Vince Harris, the Sunderland RBL branch vice-chairman, said: “It’s a beautiful gesture - just fantastic. We really weren’t expecting anything like that.”

Vince said the kind offer from Rangers fans had come after the majority of Wearsiders had once again shown their generosity and compassion during this year’s Poppy Appeal.

He said: “I want to get the point across that the vast majority of people are great.

“Many thousands of people paid money to the Poppy Appeal this year, and the people of Sunderland are fantastic at poppy time.”

Police are still investigating and the legion hope closed-circuit TV footage will snare the culprit and bring him to justice.

The theft happened at about 5pm on Friday, November 7.

Security camera footage shows a man, wearing a hoodie, sneaking into the chippy while staff worked in the rear of the premises.

Anyone recognising the man pictured is asked to call police on 101 ext 69191.

  7. how does what happened effect ally putting a team together that can play well . on paper we have the 2nd best team in scotland , aberdeen , dundee utd and hearts can play good football so what stops us ?

You can assemble all the necessary parts to build a car but anyone who has owned a Rover will know the whole is not greater than the sum of the parts.
  8. Manager Ally McCoist is in talks to land the 28-year-old, who is a free agent after leaving Raith Rovers at the end of last season.

Robinson, who has also had spells at Kilmarnock, Queen of the South and Swedish outfit FK Ostersunds since departing Ibrox in 2009, is mulling over a one-year contract offer to provide cover for first-choice keeper Cammy Bell.

Bell will be out for two weeks after fears that he had dislocated his shoulder and needed surgery were allayed.

Veteran Steve Simonsen has been deputising but McCoist believes Robinson can eventually push Bell for the No 1 spot.

McCoist’s hopes of doing further business this month could hinge on fringe players Sebastien Faure and Arnold Peralta being moved on.

  9. ACCORDING to reports in England, the controversial businessman wants to increase his shareho

Owen Humphreys/PA Wire JS42688847.jpg Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley

NEWCASTLE UNITED owner Mike Ashley is set to increase his stake in Rangers Football Club.

The Newcastle United owner has reportedly pledged a significant loan to the Ibrox side after he had knocked back a similar request earlier this year.

The billionaire businessman already owns around seven per cent of the club and it is believed that stake will be considerably bigger after his cheque is cashed by Rangers, whose cash woes continue.

It has been rumoured for some time south of the border that wanted to buy Rangers outright and step away from Newcastle United, where he remains an unpopular figure among the fans.

Any deal could prove complicated with rules in place to bar any individual from owning two football clubs in the same competition.

However that is unlikely for the foreseeable future with Rangers currently playing in the Scottish Championship.

I for one would be over the moon to see big Donald back, a criminal Q.C. is just what we need to identify who did what and go after the bastards who conspired to out Glasgow Rangers down the drain. When you take into account the money that was withheld from us by the SPL then there is surely grounds for BOD going after the SPL

    This Bod lol

  11. In the Daily Mail today he gives an interview where he states it was through Jim Stewart who had been his goalkeeping coach at Hertz that he went to Rangers,He told him to come in as they had a fantastic physio who had worked really well with someone who had the same injury as me.He states it was really good working with him as he was really knowledgeable.

But was I close to joining Rangers, not really. Then goes on to state that playing for the tims will be the biggest club he has played for, one of the biggest in Britain with a worldwide fanbase.

  12. BB I've been to games where there have been crowds of 100K++ but the atmosphere that evening was very, very special with BARCELONA HERE WE COME belting out for the full 90 minutes.

What capped off a perfect evening was getting home to see Dixie blooter his penalty in the direction of where the international space station is currently located lnockin them out of the European Cup....... great night.

I remember the day after the missed penalty there was a cartoon by Rod? in the daily rhebel -there were a couple of spacemen doing a walkabout on the moon when one finds a ball and says into his radio tell Dixie we've found the ball.A classic.
  13. Not many forwards last at the highest level as long as that, and let's not forget after leaving us Boyd really struggled to score goals outside of Scotland, so I'm not sure he'll be taking us towards top league titles again

Not many forwards last at the highest level as long as that, and let's not forget after leaving us Boyd really struggled to score goals outside of Scotland, so I'm not sure he'll be taking us towards top league titles again

Aye but maybe he lost his mojo as he left it at Ibrox for his return, when they are reunited he will once again earn the mantle of Scotlands top scorer.

RANGERS and Liverpool will meet in a mouthwatering Dale Farm Milk Cup for the first time this summer.

Yesterday's draw in Belfast paired two of the biggest clubs in the Junior competition at the international youth tournament while local representatives County Armagh are also looking forward to games against both sides.

County Down, who have an impressive tournament pedigree, face 2012 Junior winners Brentford and Queen of the South while holders Everton and Brazilian giants SC Corinthians will be early opponents for County Fermanagh.

In the Premier competition Manchester United are up against CSKA Moscow and County Armagh.

The draw was streamed live to a worldwide audience by BBC Sport NI through its website and tournament chairman Victor Leonard revealed that several exciting innovations are planned to expand the event in the future thanks to the support of new lead sponsors Dale Farm.

It is 21 years since Rangers participated at the Milk Cup and Jim Sinclair, Rangers Academy Director, believes it's an exciting opportunity for the club's up and coming talent.

He said: "We are delighted to be renewing Rangers' long association with the Milk Cup having won the event during the 80's and 90's and we're hopeful that our group will enjoy the experience again this year.

"The Milk Cup has over many years developed a fantastic reputation for providing a strong tournament with competitive clubs from all over the world and the quality of opposition will prove a great test for our young team.

"We always look forward to taking teams to Northern Ireland where the club has a large supporter base and we know we will participate in an event which has a reputation for first class organisation."

The Dale Farm Milk Cup begins with the traditional parade of competing teams through Coleraine on Sunday, July 27, concluding with finals night at Ballymena Showgrounds on Friday, August 1.
