  1. Hate to say it but hibs are 9/1 on coupon in hills could be worth few quid

piss off and get a backbone :sherlock:

The way we are playing there is every chance hibs could win. If they beat us they go top

why would you want to profit from your own teams misfortune :anguish:

I know people that bet on their team losing as a way of, not really recovering but trying to ease the pain of losing, of course they dont want their team to lose but it at least compensates for it a little.

Exactly mate. Plus we have alot of important players out. Boogie, Mendes, Thomo

  2. As said Morton seeing all my pals support them have been much better since they got rid of Irons.. beat QOS away, a very good result and i see them beating Ross County.... it is good odds tho on them.

I should have looked more at Morton's form admittedly, btw, who is the Morton Manager at present (caretaker I suppose)? I did look for this before placing the bet but didn't spot it, maybe I'd have found it if I'd looked more in depth at their match report.

James Grady and Allan McManus caretakers yes.

They have been getting results though as i said it is a tight league, i keep an eye on lower league form a lot as bookies tend to be slightly more negligent of the lower leagues with their odds etc..

Super, cheers for the info there, Lovell said that in the Sun too at the weekend in regards to ignorance & with what you said it also makes a Saturday loss not so bad.

Don't be afraid though to drop me a pm or enhance the betting thread too with some tips Marc ;)(tu)

AND A PM TO ME IF THERES TIPS GOIN

FORMER football star Stuart Lovell is ready to help Scottish Sun punters clean up at the bookies.

Our new tipster has made a fortune betting on soccer stars and teams.

And the ex-Hibs and Livingston ace revealed he used to make a tidy profit having a flutter on HIMSELF.

Last night Stuart, 37, said: "I've made enough over the years to have been banned by certain bookies - they don't like it up 'em."

The keen punter has made an average profit of around £6,000 a year for the past nine years.

And from today Stuart will be passing on his footy tips to our readers in The Favourite - our essential betting pull-out.

The Australian-born player explained how he was taught to beat the bookies at their own game thanks to an injury.

He said: "In 1997 I ruptured the cruciate ligament in my left knee. It was a career-threatening injury and I had a long period of rehab.

"To pass the time one day I went to Ascot and bumped into a professional gambler.

"He bet £2,000 on a horse in the first race and lost. He then bet £1,000 each way on a horse in the second race which won convincingly - leaving him £5,500 up.

"And that was it. He left despite there being another five races on the card.

"He told me there were only two horses he fancied and he didn't want to bet on anything else. It made me realise that if you want to win you need a strategy. If you don't, then sure you'll win now and then, but most of the time you'll lose.

"But you need tremendous discipline and willpower to stick to your strategy.

"That's what got me thinking that you don't have to bet on every horse or every match. You've got to be selective."

Stuart kicks off his column this week with the first Old Firm game of the season - but he wouldn't dream of trying to predict the scoreline.

He said: "I don't go in for that. Despite playing professional football for 18 years, I still don't know how to work out what the final score will be.

"To be honest I don't think either Rangers or Celtic can be trusted right now.

"My gut feeling is Rangers will win, although I probably still won't bet on them."

Stuart prefers having a flutter on first goalscorers.

He said: "You tend to find that certain players have a good record against certain teams.

"Rangers' Kris Boyd has a stunning record against his old club Kilmarnock. If you'd bet him to score first against them in all the previous games, you'd have done pretty well as you'll still get odds of 4/1.

"Kris does very well against the lesser teams, particularly at Ibrox, where he will score at least two hat-tricks a season.

"Now every fan knows that but the bookies don't seem to have realised it yet.

"Four times last year I backed him to score hat-tricks against teams at home in the bottom six - and he did it twice. I had him at 28/1 and I made well over £1,000."

Stuart also used to enjoy a punt on himself.

The dad-of-two - who joined Hibs in 1998 - said: "At Ladbrokes one day I saw they'd pushed me out to 10/1 for first scorer.

"I thought that was a bit of an insult, put some money on myself then scored my fastest ever goal of my career in 15 seconds against Raith Rovers. I made about £300 that day.

"I didn't back myself every week, though. I wasn't that daft or that good.

"But in the last Edinburgh derby at the end of the 2000-01 season I backed myself at 25/1 and it was 0-0 going into injury-time when we got a penalty and I stood to make about a grand.

"I tried to get the ball off of Mixu Paatelainen, but he was too big for me and he insisted he was taking it.

"I thought, 'Oh well, I'll still get my £900 win bonus'.

"He tried to dink it over his old mate Antti Niemi in goal and the big lump only put it over the bar - so I was about £2,000 down because of him."

Stuart, who lives in Edinburgh with his toy shop worker wife Nicola and their kids Samantha, eight, and six-year-old Ben, recommends punters scan the lower divisions for better odds.

He said: "I like Stirling Albion away at Dumbarton this weekend. Bookies spend far less time pricing up games in the lower divisions because they can't be bothered.

"But Stirling Albion have won five out of seven and are playing against a team who have won one in seven and conceded more goals than anyone else.

"You'll get them at even money and that's good."

He's also got an eye on the Champions League - but hasn't risked any of his dosh on Rangers' hopes this season.

Stuart - who captained Livingston's League Cup win in 2004 - said: "I got off to a flier in the Champions League as I must have been one of the few to bet on Grafite from Wolfsburg to finish top scorer at 80/1.

"He scored a hat-trick in his first game. Unfortunately Ronaldo also has his shooting boots on, so it'll be a close run thing - though I do have Real Madrid to win the Champions League.

"I got them at 12/1 just after they signed Kaka as I took the view that there would be more players to come, and there were when they signed Ronaldo. Now they are 5/1 favourites."

But he added: "I don't like top scorer bets in the SPL.

"Realistically it's only a player from Rangers or Celtic who'll finish top and for me there's no value in that. But I have had a couple of good bets down south when I went for Darren Bent at 66/1 and Jermaine Defoe at 25/1 - and both are right up there.

"Whether they'll still be there at the end of the season remains to be seen, but if they make it into the top four, I'll be quids in as I have them each way."

Stuart - who was a touchline reporter for the now-defunct Setanta TV station - said: "All punters will go on bad runs. You've just got to hold your nerve until you start winning.

"So I hope I can help Scottish Sun readers win a few quid - and have a lot of fun doing it."

  7. Want FIFA 10, but don’t want to pay crazy prices? Well, it appears Asda are running a 24hr deal and flogging EA’s latest footy sim for just £26.71, an amazing price, but one only available until the 3rd of October. You’ve got to get it tomorrow, basically, but GameStation will price match providing a participating Asda store is within a 10 mile radius.

If you don’t make it to Asda, Tesco are selling it for £28.98 all weekend.
