  1. Any of you guys watch the US College Football? Im some places the College sports are more popular then the professionals. I used to go and see the UNC Carolina Tarheels football occasionally when I lived there.

In fact the biggest stadium in America is the University of Michigans Stadium in Ann Arbor, 109,901 capacity for a college team, quite unbelievable. Most of the top 10 stadiums by capacity in the US are for college teams.

Some of the High School football ground in America have bigger capacity than some of the grounds we visited in the 3rd Division, and thats for High School football, I dont even know if my High School in Scotland even has a football team. Just think where we'd be as a footballing nation if we put as much focus into sports in School as the yanks do.

I'm from Michigan and I've been to Michigan Stadium dozens of times. Michigan football is the only team that mean as much as Rangers to me. And you're right, next to the NFL, college football is the second biggest sport in the country and the biggest in the south. Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Texas, Texas A&M, USC and UCLA all have larger stadia than anything you'll find in the NFL.

  2. Imagine being on the receiving end of that call  Brutal.

I definitely feel for Mike Smith, their coach. He seems like a good guy and I know he's a good coach, but they're having a rough season. Also, wearing the poppy today was nice gesture.

  3. We're in some big trouble here. That number 1 rating for the defense is a bit misleading too. We've been running the ball more this year, using the clock and keeping the D off the field, which helps their stats. We have a very good D-line, decent linebackers and a pretty awful secondary.

  4. I read an article the other day which described him as "objectively the greatest football player who ever lived" and I just thought "so Americans really do only care about stats then?"

Maybe Peyton only lacks one thing - nerve, but that's a pretty huge thing to lack if you're the greatest player ever.

I think you guys are on to something about Americans and our affinity for stats in sports. I think the reasons are two fold:

    1. Baseball was the first sports phenomena in this country, and as you said in a previous post, it is insanely statistical. I think we took that way of thinking and incorporated it in with our other games. Everyone knows the benchmark numbers: 1000 yards rushing, 3000 yards passing = good seasons in football. 100 yards rushing and 300 yards passing = a great game. Basketball is the same: 20 points or 10 rebounds or 10 assists would all constitute a good game.

    2. Fantasy football. It has even changed the way I view the game and I've been an avid fan since I was 6. It's really sick. I'll be watching a game with my dad, it'll be a team I've hated my whole life like the Packers, and Jordy Nelson scores a touchdown and I'll say "yes!" And my dad will just look at me, like "WTF?" And I'll be like "I got him on two of my fantasy teams" and he'll shake his head in disgust.

You know how during NFL games Fox or CBS will scroll all of the statistical leaders from that days games on the bottom of the screen? 7 or 8 years ago it wasn't like that, it was just scores.

  5. Honestly wouldn't surprise me to see a repeat of Denver / Seattle Superbowl.

Seattle look immense. Defense as solid as always. Sherman wasn't even targeted ONCE. Makes defending a lot easier when you only have one side of the field to watch out for. Some of the read option and bootlegs on offense were great too. Also, Percy Harvin.

For Packers, Buluga torn MCL...thats three of the best o-line out now. That means weeks of Sherrod who couldn't block for shit last night. Rodgers had no time at all. Scary thought going up against the Jets D next week.

Also Lacy left the game with concussion after running into the brick wall that is Kam Chancellor.

Yep, Seahawks look great again and if they can get homefield advantage for the playoffs, no one will stand a chance.

I didn't realize the Packers had so many injury problems on the O-line, but as a Lions fan, I can't say I'm too broken up about it!
