  8. As we celebrate the 150th year of our Club what better way to get the drinks flowing and the cash tills ringing again in your clubs and pubs than a Rangers Founders Presentation Event. We at the Founders Trail are aware that due to time constraint, distance and cost many supporters can't make the journey to Glasgow to join us on the Founders Trail so eight years ago we launched the Founders Trail Roadshow which is an alternative format and lets us take our wonderful story out to you! The Founders Trail Roadshow tells the story of our Founders from the shores of the Gareloch,to their arrival in Glasgow, their journey to the front door of Ibrox Stadium and beyond. This is done by way of a slideshow presentation. We profile each of our Founders and the subsequent growth of our unique club. The presentation also provides an insight into the Restoration of Rangers Graves Project and of course the Founders Trail. We hope that by telling this story it will give everyone an understanding of the very foundations upon which those lads built our club. Over the last few years the Founders Trail Roadshow has visited many supporters clubs and lodges in places such as Belfast,Londonderry,Plymouth,Corby,Blackpool,Campbletown and Thringstone. The presentation lasts for approximately 90 mins, with a 30 minute interval we also encourage a Q&A session at the conclusion. The roadshow can be booked to coincide with other entertainment you may wish to provide for those attending. We have all of our own equipment, all we need from you is a plug point and an audience. If you would like to discuss us bringing the Founders Trail Roadshow to you then please email us at thefounderstrail @gmail.com or call 07902 855536 for a chat.

  19. A few years ago we had the absolute pleasure of meeting the Great Grandchildren of Harry McNeil,Ann Law and Archie Stewart. Tragically Ann was taken from us last year but she asked her brother Archie that a donation be made to the Restoration of Rangers Graves Project. We’d like to thank both of them for their humbling and overwhelming generosity. Ann and Archie’s parents are pictured with Founder Moses McNeil while visiting him at Rosneath. Harry McNeil. Harry McNeil was the older brother of our Founders Moses and Peter. He has the distinction of having played for our Club in it’s first ever game v Callander in May 1872 on Fleshers Haugh. Harry would play for the Club again during the 1880's and was a member of the Rangers Ancients team, along with the likes of Tom Vallance, who played many exhibition and charitable matches. During the 1870’s Harry would go into a business partnership with his brother Peter, their H+ P McNeil sports good premises were a feature on both Union Street and Renfield Street Glasgow from the mid 1870's until 1896. Once he'd hung up his boots Harry was to run the Royal Hotel in Bangor County Down. He was still attending Ibrox cheering on his beloved Rangers during the early1920’s, Harry lived long enough to see us from day one on Fleshers Haugh, into Ibrox and Rangers playing in front of huge attendances. He passed in 1924. In 2015 our research led us to Harry’s Great Grandchildren Ann Law and Archie Stewart and sadly his unmarked grave in Rutherglen Cemetery, Also buried there were Harry’s Brother in Law Andrew Park and his daughter Annie Robertson McNeil Scott. The Club by way of supporting our Restoration of Rangers Graves Project agreed to purchase a stone for Harry McNeil’s final resting place, this was put in place at a dedication service in 2016. Ann and Archie were guests of the Club at Ibrox and both remained good friends of the Founders Project. Archie still attends and supports our Founders events. The worldwide Rangers family thanks you both sincerely for your kind and generous donation.

  21. A few weeks ago we had the pleasure of locating the final resting place of Dugald and Alexander Mackenzie in Cathcart Cemetery Glasgow. Restoration work and the placing of a memorial plaque has now been carried out. A special thanks goes out to Billy and Alison Fletcher for their assistance. Dugald MacKenzie. Vice President 1890-91 President 1891/92 and 1895/96 Director 1900/1901 and 1905/06 Dugald MacKenzie became President of Rangers in 1891 and retained the honourable position until 1896. He was also president of the SFA and the Scottish Amateur Athletic Union. When cycle racing was at it’s zenith in the 1890’s Dugald often travelled to bring the most famous cyclists of the day to the Rangers Sports. Dugald was President of Rangers when we won our first ever Scottish Cup in 1894. As a life member he was presented with a gold badge in 1896 for his tireless work with our Club. Alexander Bryce MacKenzie Player 1882/83 and 1891/92 Director 1899/00 and 1910/11 Alex had the distinction of playing in every position for the Rangers and was known as ‘’ The handyman’’. He undoubtedly was a quality player as playing for ten years back in the 1880’s was quite an achievement. He went on to become a Director at our Club and also served on various committee’s once his playing days were over. The MacKenzie brothers gave many years of service to our Club and today are remembered by the worldwide Rangers support.
  22. A couple of weeks ago we were contacted by the family of James ‘’Tuck’’ McIntyre, his great niece said that she’d been researching her family tree which took her on to our website thefounderstrail.co.uk On Sunday we had the pleasure of meeting, all the way from Texas, Sandra Tucker and her friend Susan. It was a joy to take them on a tour of many places relating to James’s time at Rangers including our magnificent Ibrox Stadium. They then paid their respects at his final resting place at Craigton Cemetery. The James McIntyre story. James played for Alexandria Athletic for three years before joining Rangers in 1880.He played for Rangers for 11 years and was Club captain for a spell. He represented Glasgow against Sheffield, London, Lancashire, Edinburgh and Birmingham and was capped for Scotland against Wales in 1884.He was Convenor of the Rangers ground and was also on selection committee’s. James was one of the few people to be awarded life membership of the Rangers. In the 1890’s James McIntyre was the owner of what was Tuck’s which became Fergies, NN10 and today the Three Cheers pub at Paisley Road Toll which he sadly lost due to ‘’cash flow problems’’. ‘’ Well if he wasn’t so keen on giving the Rangers supporters so much whiskey on tick then it could’ve stayed in the family hands ‘’ said his Grand Daughter Vivien. In his later years James lived at 407 Paisley Road, a stone’s throw from Ibrox Stadium .Due to his contribution to the Club over many years a supporter offered to buy James and his family a retirement house in Largs which James turned down as he said it would take him too far away from the Rangers.Vivien said ‘’ He would often sit at the window of the flat on Paisley Road and the supporters on their way to Ibrox would shout and wave up to him which brought him great comfort’’. She also informed us that the name ‘’ Tuck’’ came about because of his portly figure. It isn’t everyone who can say that a family relative met Buffalo Bill! It was in 1891 that Bill Cody brought his famous Wild West show to Glasgow. James McIntrye met with him and asked that he bring his show to Ibrox, sadly that never transpired but James brought Buffalo Bill to Ibrox to watch the Rangers play Queens Park. James sadly passed on 17th March 1943. James McIntyre played a huge role in the early years of our Club and won’t ever be forgotten.
