Maybe my mind is playing tricks on me but how do you figure that out? He was just as bad that season as he was any other apart from the fact he fucked off at around March time as opposed to actually turning up and doing his bit like he usually would around then. Lafferty is a waster, always has been, always will be.

He might be a prick, but he was good for us. He played against a higher standard of opposition (when the top flight was still decent) while Miller played against a lower level.

That team is hardly reflective of our squad for that season. If we take this team:

McGregor, Whittaker, Goian, Bocanegra, Wallace, Naismith, Davis, Edu, McCabe, Aluko, Jelavic

    Against:

Foderingham, Tavernier, Kiernan, Wilson, Wallace, McKay, Kranjcar, Barton, Rossiter, Forrester, Waghorn

    I'd select the team:

    McGregor

    Tavernier Goian Bocanegra Wallace

    Davis Barton Kranjcar

    Naismith Jelavic Aluko

That's 7 old players, 3 new ones and one from both eras. So, at this moment I'd say no, from a player quality point of view. That's also being kind to Tavernier over Whittaker. But in reality, it's too early to tell how the current players are going to perform in the SPL. Barton I'm confident with but with Kranjcar, Rossiter, Hill, Onyewu, Tavernier, Holt and McKay it's just a guessing game

    Whittaker was better than Tav

That's a roundabout answer, but if he has indeed taken something from tonight's  game good.

I personally liked the Welsh free kick midway in the Portugese half where Bale ran from the front line close to  goal  to the back line within the box, the Portugese defenders were reluctant to break the line and follow, allowing Bale the space to receive the ball and fire in a shot on the turn which went close. hadn't seen that before.

You can learn more about the game even from the most mediocre matches, never mind a Euro semi.

Rangers = Club team. Scottish. Wear blue. Play at Ibrox. Play free flowing football. Not the Welsh national team

Wales = National team. Welsh. Wear red. Don't play at Ibrox. Play counter attacking football. No Rangers.

They have fuck all to do with Rangers in any way shape or form.

Perhaps not, but that's the sort of insular position that is destroying the Scottish game.

    We can learn from it.

Until Mr Warburton arrived did we ever imagine we would be playing football the modern way. I doubt anyone embedded in the scottish game could have changed our ways.

How long since the Spanish succesfully revolutionised and mastered the keeping possession on the deck and  chasing the ball when it was lost has it taken just the one team in scotland (us) to try copy it and try and master it too ?

We can learn from a NASA probe to Mars, doesn't mean it's got anything to do with Rangers though does it? It's not as if Warburton even knows this website exists so he's not going to take anything from the thread and he's obviously watching all the games so anything he wants to take he can.

So as Gers fans and football fans what did we learn from that game.

I've learned that the Welsh team spirit and commitment, tactical awareness and competent management can take an average team to great things, but true class can be elusive..

I've learned that Portugese doggedness, greater experience and just one world class player who turns it on in the big games can take a very average team to an European final.

I've learned that the Welsh national team has absolutely fuck all to do with Rangers.

Because it is full of football fans who just happen to be Gers fans.

Satisfies my dual belief that subjective support of the Gers and an objective support of football are mutual rather than opposite.

Unfortunately a lot of football fans, especially our enemies in Scotish football don't unerstand that.:power_of_anguish:

Every single Welsh person could be a Rangers fan but their international progress doesn't have anything to do with Rangers
