  1. From SS website ;)

Hull City have signed former Celtic striker Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink.

The Dutchman has signed a two-year deal at the KC Stadium after passing a medical and agreeing personal terms.

Vennegoor of Hesselink is able to join the Tigers outside the transfer window as he is a free agent after being released by Celtic earlier this summer.

Hull were keen to bolster their attack before the close of the transfer window, but saw a move for Marlon Harewood from Aston Villa fail to materialise.

Tigers chief Phil Brown has been chasing striking reinforcements all summer and he has finally bolstered his attack by luring Vennegoor of Hesselink to East Yorkshire.

Hull chairman Paul Duffen was delighted to land Vennegoor of Hesselink and claimed the club had beaten some big clubs to bring the striker to the KC Stadium.

"I'm delighted we have beaten off all the competition to bring him to the KC stadium," said Duffen.

"We've definitely wanted an experienced, top-drawer striker who scores goals and Jan has scored prolifically in top leagues in Europe.

"It's what we need. We didn't score enough goals last season. Going forward we have a lot of new talent and Jan will play his part in using his experience to settle them down.

"We've been looking at Jan since July and are really pleased we've turned his head.

"He's been looking at other big clubs in Europe but the Premier League is where he wants to come and play with us."

  3. FRENCH winger Jerome Rothen has expressed his delight at putting pen-to-paper on a one-year loan deal with Rangers.

The 31- year-old knocked back interest from Schalke and Blackburn Rovers to move to Ibrox and feels it is one of the biggest challenges of his career.

Jerome RothenThe French international has never played for a club outwith France but felt the time was right to test himself in a different league.

He said: "I am absolutely delighted to be joining Rangers, a massive club with a great history.

"Today has been a very busy day but I have been very impressed with everything and now look forward to a new chapter in my life.

"I did have other offers from Schalke and Blackburn but I just felt that Rangers offered something different.

"Playing in the Champions League is, of course, great for the club but there is also a big chance to win trophies in Scotland.

"This is important for any footballer.

"I spoke to Dado Prso and Jeremy Clement, two of my former teammates at Monaco and PSG, and they had great things to say about Rangers.

"They said the fans, the stadium and the training ground are very special and that made my decision to leave Paris a bit easier.

"I am now looking forward to meeting all my new teammates soon and making my debut for Rangers."

  4. Maybe smith thinks wilson is enough cover after mcculoch ?

Would like to think that Wilson's good enough but what if we need him for a CL game, he's got no experience at SPL level, never mind Europe.

He'll need to get that experience somehow though!

True. Better now than in a couple years when he will be dropped into the first team (hopefully). Better to ease him in over the games with the romanians ;.
