If he was that desperate to come back a simple conversation with his agent is all that would be needed when will these people see that he likes rangers, but loves his wage

Spot on, it was like people clamouring for players like Gattuso to come back a few years ago. Weiss is playing in a bigger, backwater league than Scotland on much better wages. Sad times!!

Never! and here's me thinking he was still with us awell, I was wondering why we have been linked with new staff. Don't tell me Warburton and Weir might be next.

    Top banter that!!

Nottingham Forest have appointed Frank McParland as the Championship club's new director of football.

McParland, 57, has worked with Premier League sides Liverpool and Burnley, as well as Watford and Bolton Wanderers.

Most recently, Liverpool-born McParland was in Glasgow working for Rangers, for their former boss Mark Warburton, who he had also worked with at Brentford.

Warburton, 54, has been strongly been linked with the vacant manager's position at the City Ground.

McParland effectively replaces Pedro Pereira, who left the club back in October.

As well as his job as Academy director at Liverpool, he was chief scout at Watford, general manager at Bolton, sporting director at both Brentford and Burnley and then head of recruitment at Rangers.

Meanwhile, Forest have announced a new four-and-a-half-year deal for teenage midfielder Matty Cash.

Cash, 19, who has already made 33 first-team appearances, is now tied to Forest until the summer of 2021.

He missed two months of this season after fracturing a bone below his knee in the 2-2 Championship draw at Aston Villa in September.

This is a significant step for the club. Many fans have criticised a lack of structure over recent years.

Anything that helps to correct this is to be welcomed.

  4. Admin you can lock this thread......thought it might be too much to ask for a mature response to this request, with our club moving forward it's a shame some individuals can't!!

Thanks for the positive replies....it is appreciated!!

  5. If you go on the club website under Club there is a contact us section, try that outlining the boy's footballing background and mark it for the attention of Craig Mulholland that might work. I have the feeling that the club under the present regime are much more responsive

I really hope so....thanks and I will do

  6. Can any fellow bears help me with information on how to get a lad I used to coach at Notts County a trial with the club? He's currently on trial at St Mirren and impressed in their last game, he's not got an agent so doesn't have access to a wealth of contacts.

He really is a superb player and would really thrive in the environment being created at the club right now, would just like to see him get the opportunity to show how good he is.

    Thanks in advance

From memory, backed by the link above, it was the moneyball mentality at boardroom level which was the key reason for him leaving Brentford. Sounded as though he was happy to meet them half way, open to the idea of it's use, but it was really driven by the board and he's much more old fashioned in his recruitment ideology.

Worked well for him, the key reason for him leaving was the appointment of two Co-directors of Football that would take all recruitment responsibility away from him.

Personally I would love to see him here, certainly I would much rather him be considered over the dross we are usually linked with.

  8. He turned Forest around but longer term failed to sustain the progress but in my view that was largely due to the board he was operating under. Again, reputable managers in Steve McLaren and Alex McLeish suffered the same fate at Forest.

As for 'financial misdemeanors'........first time I've read that. Is there any factual evidence of this, or even a reputable printed source of it's possibility, or is it just pub gossip ?

Here's a little taster for you though

That's not going to be printed now is it......in time it will all come out.....but sacked just 2 points off the playoffs and failure to secure a job despite his apparently "good reputation".

I work within professional football in England and this "event" with Davies is well known in those circles.

Having said that, I would take Warburton in a heartbeat....moneyball mentality to recruitment and extensive scouting contacts. Brentford have achieved great things on a shoestring the last couple of years.

  10. Warburton is just far too risky for me. Did a great job at Brentford but there are lots of managers who have done a great job at just one club. For me we need an experienced manager who has more on his cv than one good job.

I just can't see past Billy Davies. He did fantastic jobs at Preston and Derby, and did a lot of good work at Forest which just didn't work out due to difficult circumstances at board room level as reputable managers in Steve McLaren and Alex McLeish later found out.

We need a strong character, someone who will rip out the dead end mediocrity within the squad and properly stamp their own authority and vision onto the playing squad. To me, Davies is that character.

Davies should be nowhere near our club.....sacked twice at Forest, second time for financial misdemeanors that were kept out of the media by the chairman. Precisely the character we DON'T need polluting our club.
