  1. I know that this issue will open a can of worms, but here's why Ireland was "missing" from the list: Ireland has been a soverign and independent country since 1922. I wouldn't want to take anything away from their soverignty or independence as a Nation. Having said that, there are numerous historical, cultural, geographical, sporting and political reasons why Ireland and the United Kingdom have a special relationship and thus players from Ireland have been treated differently in the data to, say, players from Bolivia or Japan. You only have to look at the recent "Nations Cup" (also called 4 Associations' Tournament or Celtic Cup) to see why this is the case.
  2. 558 Foreign Players have played in the Scottish Premier League from season 1998-99 to 2010-11. Rangers have had the most foreign players with 89. France has supplied the most players with 85. Players from a total of 78 foreign countries (non-British & Irish Isles) have had participate in the Scottish Premier League since season 1998-99. 9. £22 million for Modric is, quite frankly, an insult for a player described by Sir Alex Ferguson as the best in the Premier League. Not that I'd want us to sell him, mind. But if we did, he's worth double what Chelsea have bid and more.

  20. Just for the record, 22 of Bobby Charlton's 49 goals came in friendlies (44.9%). By contrast, only 16 of Robbie Keane's 51 goals scored so far came in friendlies (31.4%). You might also like to consider that for much of Charlton's time, England were one of the major forces in World Football - including four years as reigning World Champions. Ireland have fluctuated between being ranked 56th to 12th in the World during Keane's international career. This means that Ireland & Robbie Keane will have played a far greater percentage of their matches against much higher ranked opposition than England & Bobby Charlton ever did.
