So much wrong- or at least to disagree with in a short post.
Yes Iwas christened and baptised - but I had no say in the matter at that time - however I did go on to take communion at 16 (Like the good BB I was!) - but at that time I also believed in other unrealistic things as well (Like one day I would play for Rangers) BUT as I grew older I started to make decisions for myself rather than just do what was expected - I also came to realise that I would never play for Rangers and there was no god. Once there is no God, you stop going to the Kirk andyou stop calling yourself a Protestant - as to be one implies that belief in Kirk andGod!
We were started before them but many of our support (and many VB's) have said we only took on the Protestant mantle because they took or were wearing the Catholic mantle - so even many of the 'faithful' among the support admit we have allowed then to define us.
Yes people would like to attach their politics to Football - but given all the grief that is causing that just strengthens my belief that Football is better without politics - it is not only some of our fansI critisise for this but anyone who wants to politisise football. However the new laws that you are so up inarms against are the samenew laws that 'they' are up in arms against - and there are even some new laws that 'they' think are so bad the Catholic Churchare no longer speaking to the SNP or Scottish government. Hardly an example of religious bias.
Love the shallowness of the fact we play in Red White and Blue means that we MUST be unionists ergo the SNP must hate us - I give the majority of our support more credit than that and they will vote for the political party they see will do the best by them - and not make that desicion based on the color of a football strip!
I have NO issues with the VB defending our club - as I said earlier - we do not need to take political or religious stands to do so. Reflecting the OP speech, they have decided that to defend the club is tied to having to be Protestant, having to be Unionist - and that is nonsense! We can do that without having our politics or religion defined by others. There are people that hate our club (and there are people who are incompetent running our game) - these things need sorted BUT I do not have to start following a relgion I don't believe in nor take up politics I don't support to defend the club.

I will apologise now as I know you're not an official part of the Vanguard Bears', so it's not as if you're saying anything on behalf of the group officially, so it's more really been a conversation and you've been good enough to amuse me with it! Just one more thing for tonight (I had no intention of staying up this late, the powers of the internet!) I don't believe it is true that it's not my religious/political views that are the problem. It was mentioned earlier in the thread that part of being a VB was being a member of a PUL, or at least sympathise with them, I don't, and take no interest in them at all (another subject for another day, no doubt!), so therefore surely my political viewpoint does come into play as I therefore wouldn't be accepted.
I can't help but feel this is pretty backwards, and what I personally believe is that these sort of policies are something that should be left behind when it comes to bringing the club forward. Political/religious backgrounds shouldn't be forgotten (and all should be accepted) but they should be put to one side when it comes to bringing the club forward and adding to the great institution we already are.

Yes, I haven't lived in Glasgow for 20 years, I haven't attended every home game for the past 6 years, I haven't seen what traditions are, I haven't met countless Rangers fans who have similar traditions (and countless who don't). I think I pretty much know the script by now thanks.
I think our club can be more. I don't challenge anyone's political or religious views, but can our club be built stronger without a heavy reliance on either? I believe it can.

Out of curiosity, is there a place in the VB for someone who isn't a Unionist, a Monarchist, and not interested in defending traditions such as the Orange Order?
Are there many on your forum that don't stand for these things?

I told you, I have no interest in defending Dingwall. I would say that it's more than a little contradictory for VB to proclaim themselves to be defenders of traditions and the support and then, in the same post, attempt a character assassination of one of our own.
There are things included in the original post that VB can rightly be proud of and things than no-one, least of all me, can do anything but praise and congratulate VB for. The quasi-political and religious undertones do nothing but alienate the very large (and it's larger than some people might care to admit) section of the support who have no interest in such things and see Rangers as a football club. If VB really are the defenders of all Rangers fans then surely alienating such a large section of the support makes no sense?

I don't think I could have summed it up any better myself, to be honest.
The Founding Father headstone, the money raised are great, and I'm sure there's a load more that I don't know about.
But this political side that they are passionate about is something I try to remove from my support of Rangers as far as possible. It's of no interest to me, and I can't stand those who define it as part of your support for the club. I fully understand some want to defend their traditions, but I'm more interested in the way the club moves forward. I also believe there are some parts of the past that should stay there.
I also can't help but feel just a sense of aggression from some, and in all honesty, I see exactly why TWB makes stupid comments in order to reel someone in.
But there, I'm off to do some proper wringing of hands now whilst bouncing about on Followfollow.

Thats a political speech hidden inside comments about supporting Rangers - nothing more - nothing less - Football, andRangers would be a lot better if people took the politics and religion out of sport.

I celebrate xmas as a time to thank people - besides I like giving presents and getting them ! (shallow I know) but, like many I dont do the churchy thing.
I participate (and have participated) in all song singing - I even used to think it was OK to be a '90 min' bigot - but then I stopped - so now I am selective in my songs and words I sign to those songs - plenty good songs with no bigoted undertones - besides, despite acrap voice, I like a wee sing song.
I go to funerals and weddings in kirk or not - your either celebrating peoples commitment to each other at a wedding (with a decent piss up and bogoe to follow) - or remembering and supporting friends of family at a funeral - and I dont need a god, nor a religion to celebrate a marriage nor be sympathetic to loss.
I also have no real issue with people of faith - but its not for me - and I see a big difference in people believing in god and religion. (although I can be a bit scathing in said discussions)
BUT my main point, here in the BD, is what has any of this to do with supporting Rangers?
