  1. I had thought that but you can't apply similar logic to Ortiz or Goian. My point is that until we have seen over a 1/4 of the season we cannot really begin to apply such judgements on our signings and loans, regardless of what they have done in the past, otherwise we could right back to Ortiz and Goian's prime periods. They are here to do a job and we need to judge them at filling their varied positions. I do not think Bartley, Goian or Ortiz are first choices for Ally. Lee Wallace is looking like a top investment if all goes well, he will have bad patches, lets hope Bears get on his side.

I felt like expressing my views on our new transfers. Sorry if you feel they are unjustified but they are my views.

  2. Wouldn't disagree with they ratings tbh.

I have been very impressed with Goian and Wallace, Ortiz not at all and Bartley has played half a game but I think he'll be better than he was last year, hes only going to improve. (tu)

Thing that reeeeeeeeeeally frustrates me though is I watched our pre-season games in Germany and Ortiz looked a real threat and very direct, guess the position he was playing? Ye guessed correctly, RM.

Agree, people questioning Ortiz already is shocking. He has not had a shot at his right position.

  3. How do we rate a guy who has only played about half of one competitive game? I like Bartley but to rate a guy who hobbles off with a groin injury at 8/10 is a bit unrealistic, as are the rest of these ratings. Ortiz being rated at which position? Goian has had 2 games. Get a f*king grip people.

I took into consideration his performances last season.

  4. Review on Rangers signings so far.

    Juanma Ortiz

Juanma was the first signing of Ally's reign of the club, signed from relegated Spanish club Almeria for a reported fee of 400K. To date the level of performance produced from Ortiz has been poor and the jury is out to see if he can produce the goods. When Ally signed Ortiz from Almeria many expected an exiting player capable of beating his man and delivering a ball into the box. That has been different to what the fans have witnessed, instead he has been more of a defensive minded midfielder who is full of energy and willing to chase every ball. His compatibility to play several positions will come in handy during the season when there are positions lacking depth. The disappointing thing for Rangers is it would be a struggle to make a profit on Juanma if he were to move on as he does not have many more years at his peak ahead of him.

    Transfer rating : 6/10

    Dorin Goian

Goian completed his move to Rangers for a fee of 800K from Italian club Palermo. Goian joined Rangers with a good pedigree of international and club experience and this has proved vital in the games he has featured. Standing at 6'4 he uses his intimidating figure to his advantage by dominating in the air and getting his body in front of the ball. He seems perfectly adapt to the SPL as it is know as one of the more physically challenging leagues in the world. So far he has had to play with two defensive partners at the heart of defence but has managed to play beside them comfortably. If Ally is to win four in a row then Goian may prove to be pivotal to the sides defensive record. Like Ortiz it would prove difficult to make large amounts of money on a player of that age but he still has many years ahead to impress.

    Transfer rating : 7/10

    Lee Wallace

Since joining Rangers Wallace has made that left back slot his own despite competition from consistent left back Sasa Papac. Wallace's energy has proved to be a real asset for Rangers with the Left-Back providing a constant option down the left hand side. Despite being a new recruit to the squad Wallace has settled in brilliantly and does not look out of place which is always pleasing. Wallace has also gave McCoist different options from set pieces and he has proved his worth in that department claiming an assist from a set piece delivery, something Rangers severely  lacked. Many wing backs in the modern game are comfortable going forward but a bombscare at the back, this is not the case with Wallace with the defender already showing he is solid defensively. This signing will have seen Wallace's price rise considerably and if Rangers are ever interested in selling they can be sure to make a profit.

    Transfer rating : 9/10

    Kyle Bartley

Bartley returned to Rangers on a season long loan after impessing during a six month spell last year. His performances made current Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger rethink about sending him out on loan and recently extended his contract. During the months Bartley has played at Rangers he has proved a real comanding player at the back. Like Goian, Bartley stands at 6'4 and is more than capable of competing with the physical side of the game despite only being young. He also has the ability to push up into centre midfield and provide cover where necessary. For the money Rangers will be paying to keep Bartley at the club this year he will be more than worth it if he can continue to produce a high level of performance.

    Transfer rating : 8/10

Matt McKay and Bedoya will follow once I see them in action.
