  1. Another idea would be to operate kiosks for merchandise at the airport and other select places in the UK. Kiosks are low overhead....little or no electricity, a small amount of labor..... and would require very little "investment". They would be a much better alternative than a traditional retail location inside of these areas where the costs to operate are much higher.

  2. Yes, but I'd rather spend any budget investing in raising our profile in other countries. Our fan base in the UK know who we are while better branding in the stadium would be nice I'd rather have local clubs in Africa, Asia and some South American countries supported by ourselves. We could providing coaching, kit, etc.

I agree with you on that. Part of the way to jumpstart that is a return to the Champions League and a few nice runs into the Group stages. It's not a secret that there is a correlation between high revenue (sponsorships, advertising, merchandise) and success in the Champions League given world-wide TV coverage.

I also think that Warburton already has created a very positive "buzz" around his coaching methodology and will continue to build relationships that will be beneficial to the club.

  3. In conjunction with some of the proposed stadium maintenance issues and improvements etc I have been thinking about simple touches around the place that would add some style / value and freshen up Ibrox.

We are very fortunate to have such an iconic and beautiful listed building as our main stand and we must of course always preserve those traditions and identity. However some other areas both inside and outside of the stadium could benefit from some innovative cosmetic touches.

It's been a wee while since I have been over unfortunately so most of you guys are better placed to judge and appraise so I'd be interested to hear what ideas you'd have.

Does anyone know if any of the fan groups etc ever have dialogue with the club as a conduit to put forward ideas and suggestions for such things? It's probably not been a priority over the last years but seeing as we are on the road again I think it's another positive step in regenerating Rangers.

Ive always thought the Rangers crest and the Rangers badge should be more visible around the stadium from a marketing point of view. I'd like to see the Rangers crest on the side of the pitch in front of the dug outs ( like Barcelona ). Or maybe on the grass behind the goals or in the four corners? Is this allowed?

I don't suggest going all American with vulgar branding overkill but there are aspects from the American sports industry that do appeal and make good business sense.

I have some experience of rebranding and relaunching of businesses having carried out thorough business analysis and marketing projects on them beforehand. As a consequence I look at Rangers and Ibrox and feel there is so much that could be done to improve such things without spending vast sums of money.

On visits to other sporting venues in the UK, Europe and in the States I've seen ideas and examples that would enhance Ibrox, bring us in line with our competitors and maximise the marketing potential of our brand. I know some will disagree but I still think Rangers and Ibrox need to modernise to align with present day football demands.

    Good stuff.

  4. With all due respect, they don't mean as much to Rangers and, crucially, Rangers don't mean as much to them.

Also, I am well aware that some people in the US seem to struggle with the concept, what with the World Series and all that... but 'global' does tend to mean all over the actual world. You know, like Europe and Asia and Africa. Little places like that.

If you actually read the posts prior to that, someone else suggested that Gough's responsibility would be the "Americas" and not the "actual world".

In the Americas, Gough is unknown. He played two seasons in America for San Jose and Kansas City over 15-20 years ago. If it's the "Americas", he will be unknown and no one outside of existing Rangers fans will care enough to want to know more. If it's Asia and Africa...the same. He would be a great ambassador in Scotland because folks would have a better appreciation for his accomplishments in Scottish football.

Most in the US don't struggle with the concept of the EPL, international football and actual football stars since we see it on the TV and in games. In the past 5 years, MLS has turned into a much better league than the SPL and is a much better attraction for a lot of players in North, Central and South America. We have plenty of former stars from all over the world here and if you want to attract the younger fans or increase awareness here, this appointment is pretty blah and will not raise the profile one iota.

As far as "Rangers don't mean much to them"...Bocanegra has always talked highly in the press here about his time at Rangers and Reyna is a Club 1872 member. I think the club means a little bit more than what you say.

  5. Wouldn't Reyna's current involvement with Man City and the City Football Group rule out any involvement with an outside football team? Bocanegra would be great though, not sure what he's doing though.

True with Reyna. He was previously with the US Soccer Federation and that was probably the best time to have approached him. Depends on the money out there for this position. Bocanegra is retired and back in the States.

While Gough did play in the US, anyone not familiar with Rangers wouldn't know him at all. At least with Reyna and Boca, they would know both well. Reyna is a rising star in the USA on the coaching/admin side of things and he is a Club 1872 member with RF.

  6. Hoosier its a lost battle, Rangers were only a global club off the back of Scots migrating to the new world and these blokes hankering for the old country.

With each generation that passes the interest dwindles. I recently housed 2 second generation scots canadians. The lads dad still watches the Rangers games in Canada at his club. When they were over they arranged the whole 2 weeks around visiting Old Trafford for a game, spent £500 in the club shop

I would agree...however, success in the Champions League with a few American (or well known internationals) players would help improve the brand awareness...

  7. Arthur would be another great shout, though as you say guys like him and Michael Mols act as ambassadors to the club free of charge, I think with Richard though you add the American dimension.he's based there and its clearly a Market we're very keen to be strong in.

I'm not a big fan of golf, shortbread or tartan, but it helps to sell Scotland to Americans, I'd say Gough would be better suited to sell Rangers to Americans than a European.

No one will know who he is nor will they care to be honest. The EPL is already on 3-4 channels in the USA and a few are on regular TV. Scottish football is on via an additional pay subscription (Fox Soccer Channel) and is aired live the same time as the EPL games.

You need a Claudio Reyna or Carlos Bocanegra to create new opportunities here in the USA. They have instant name recognition and credibility and aren't too old that folks can't remember when they played in the MLS and on the National Team.

  8. Basically it seems pointless, after the last few years we definitely shouldn't be giving out wages for nothing

It is pointless if his area of concentration is the USA and Canada. NARSA is already established and has great communication channels with the club. He has zero name recognition to folks not already intimately familiar with the club.

Someone like Claudio Reyna would be perfect because folks know him already through his play with the US national team and U.S. soccer. He would be the best choice to open up new doors.

  9. The States is a market we have been slow to exploit. We have contacts in the MILS and should be looking to sign our own players not just loaners. Guess that is what comes from having no scouting system for so long.

Nice to see Zelalem's talent being recognized

I don't think anyone in the USA hasn't recognized Gedion's talents....I think the big question was ...would he be released to play since it wasn't on an international fixture date. One of our better strikers at that age group plays in Holland and his club would not release him for these games.
